after i finished doing a scene at the actors studio, martin landau told me, “your acting really bothers me.”

because i was playing a really problematic character, i took this as a compliment and replied, “oh, thank you.”

he responded, “no. YOUR acting REALLY bothers me.”

🤣

in soft, dry British:

“that was the worst story I’ve ever heard, not just today.”

listened to stairway to heaven for the first time since i started getting into guitar gear and tone

the guitar tone on the solo is excellent

also the whole sped up part at the end is really fantastic, just great work all around
hear me out:

“renaissongs”
recently I’ve been listening to songs I used to have in heavy rotation and didn’t ever stop liking but knew well and was almost tired of and highly recommend, two thumbs up

my brief take:

1. we need to/should teach and study humanities
2. techbro problems wouldn’t decrease much if we taught everyone humanities (not just STEM)
3. STEM is good and we should teach/study that too, but
4. again, see 1
here's a hot for Bluesky take: a lot of tech-criticism is so bad and focused on a kind of stupid imagined STEM-humanities culture war that some companies have been able to build whole brands around being "evil tech bros 😈" making supervillain promises despite their shit being vaporware

I did not understand this: one of the five Europeans the US has barred from traveling to the United States...is a permanent resident who lives with his family in the US.

Now he is worried about being arrested and deported for the crime of monitoring online hate.

The "pharma shill" charge persists not because it's true but because it's useful. It discredits doctors while shielding those who actually profit from vaccine doubt. I examined the economics here: open.substack.com/pub/jakescot...

It’s nice to see people like this article.

But I want to discuss a comment it received from a political scientist at Stanford.

But first some background. 🧵
Good review of this book earlier in the year.

Kind of weird that there are numerous health care policy experts on here but I only ever see Mark arguing with random socialists on posts. Host a frigging conference or something man
I'm here willing to read anything someone puts together that details how we can get from here to there

I'm all for universal healthcare. Tell me how we get there.

And yet, In Covid’s Wake quotes me as saying that “the FBI went beyond strategic information sharing and made direct moderation demands” — literally the opposite of what I argue — to buttress their claim that the government was too busy censoring speech to adequately deal with the pandemic.

what does he think the "informed" part means
Someone should sit the new members of ACIP down and explain what their job is and is not to them in simple terms, and maybe teach them some basic law. Dr. Malone's claims here have several misunderstandings. 1/n

cancel culture run amok
If you’re wondering why your friends in academia are a little on edge right now, it’s because an eighteen-year-old who hasn’t done the reading, doesn’t look at the assignment, and has does no critical thinking skills more complex than “because I think it’s in the Bible” can literally end your career

going out on a limb and suggesting this is good, actually
I count 10 cities in 2025 that are on track to have the fewest murders since at least 1970. Newark is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1956 (though only have data through Oct this year) and San Francisco is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1942.
