This is a really important data point: when women's rights hit a setback in South Korea, it did not result in birth rates going back up, entirely the opposite. They crashed even harder.
Yep, and this isn't even a theoretical - men and women in South Korea absolutely hate each other and it's resulted in a birth rate of 0.75

Washington Post fires their last remaining Black opinion writer @karenattiah.bsky.social over the most benign comments in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's murder...

Meanwhile Fox still has Brian Kilmeade who casually said all homeless people should be killed.

Its all unfair & unbalanced. Wake up.

The extreme, opportunistic, completely disingenuous reaction to Kirk's murder also makes clear that if there's an Oklahoma City or 9/11-level attack in the next few years, this administration will absolutely exploit it to try to end our democracy and permanently entrench itself in power.

We're witnessing the most aggressive, fanatical crackdown on free speech in my lifetime. The speed and breadth of government censorship and private sector and nonprofit capitulation has been astonishing. As has the lack of urgency/silence from people who've long claimed to care about this stuff.

It is going to soon become necessary for everyone to post a fairly consistent set of critiques of Charlie Kirk, because they’re trying to come after everyone who does, and the only answer is to make them come after us all. We need to pick standardized language, and then get loud with it.

This confirms something I've suspected. News outlets are using the kirk murder to fire the progressive journalists they've wanted to get rid of for a while.

The message should not be that political violence is bad because it targeted a good guy who was “practicing politics the right way” (which Kirk definitely was not). Political violence is bad because it inherently corrodes the democratic polity, because it makes democracy impossible.

Top *eight* articles on NYT devoted to Charlie Kirk, top one asks if he will be remembered like MLK. This is a man who only a tiny percent of Americans had even heard of before his death, whose views are too nasty for NYT to detail. But they are trying so hard to turn into martyr.

this is an object lesson in why praising Dems when they do the right thing - and not just castigating them for doing the wrong thing - is good politics for those of us who want them to fight

Van Hollen raised his profile by doing the right thing and the lesson he learned was keep fighting
“Mr. Van Hollen saw a different lesson [from his role in the Abrego Garcia case]. ‘This finger in the wind stuff has got to end. We also need to stop deluding ourselves that the problem is all about messaging, or about volume, or style. We don’t just need to fight. We need to fight for something.’”

Hi!

I was homeless.

That's me he wants to kill.

If you don't know me, hi, I am pretty nice, I think. I'm a privacy lawyer. I drive a cute yellow Bronco. I do art. I have two really fluffy Maine coon cats. I volunteer at food banks when I can.

This guy would have killed me for being homeless.
