I say it every year but my favorite Christmas film, The Family Stone, is absolutely batshit insane. Unhinged things happening in that film but it's so well made and acted. The little choices they make are incredible.

I am once again flashing back to the time when, shortly after George W. Bush was elected, I started being pressured by editors at the daily when I was a media columnist to "leave politics out of it" after five straight years of writing almost anything I wanted about Bill Clinton.

This is something I found so interesting in comparing the original Broadway run of Angels in America with the revival from a few years ago. The revival was good, but it was lacking the raw, wild grief that was an uncredited extra character on the stage at all times of the original.

This is a great point and raises something we should always remember: all movies are products of their age in ways we don’t always understand. Early 2020s cinema will be marked by COVID lockdowns and carry the echo of mass death even if we can’t easily see how.
For reasons I needed to watch Its a Wonderful Life again last night.

Will do a thread closer to Christmas about it, but next time you watch it, remember this:

Both Capra and Stewart had just come back from WW2. Consider every directing, script and acting decision with that context in mind.

Cyclist turns down trans exclusionary honour for woman cyclists (and you can feel the BBC’s teeth grinding about it).

Woman refuses Cycling UK award over trans women being left out
Claire Sharpe says she disagrees with Cycling UK only naming biological women in their top 100 list.

32 years ago today, we first witnessed the wonder of the My Dinner with Andre video game. “Boy-Scoutz ‘n the Hood” premiered November 18, 1993.

And that’s a wrap. Now we wait to see what Trump’s incompetent scrub crew missed.
! Chuck @schumer.senate.gov asks unanimous consent that the Senate immediately read and pass the bill to release the Epstein files, un-amended, "as soon as it comes over from the House." No objections. Motion succeeds. Bill is deemed to the Senate unanimously, will go to Trump to become law.

An interesting thing here, given the news, is that the secretary of education is the defendant in a suit accusing her of turning a blind eye to the operations of a child molestation ring that, there is no dispute, operated within her business from the 1970s to the 1990s
This is a direct attack on our children & our future.

At a time when we need to be doing more to prepare our kids to compete in the global economy, Trump is going after the agency that strengthens American education. Once again, he's helping our adversaries & competitors.
Trump administration to announce dismantling of much of Education Dept.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order in March seeking to close the department, but only Congress has the power to do that.
