I’ve always been reluctant to go there but when the head of the pedophile trafficking ring says you are the worst creature he ever met, maybe we should go there. How many actions would repulse a man like Epstein? Not many.
ok everyone's seen the trump with epstein photos by now, after years of the media pretending they didn't exist. good progress. next step is making sure everyone who is like "uh this all is sketchy but surely the president isn't literally a pedophile" sees this gross photo

Messaging the world's most famous pedophile about how you want to fuck one of your students decades your junior is completely disgusting. It is a gross abuse of his position and he should no longer be allowed around students.

You cannot fathom how much these people in power are immature, horny little freaks without conscience or a basic grasp of consent. Only two rungs above freaky, ugly bastards out of a goddamn hentai except its real life and they potentially can just literally ruin your life and career.

This sick, sclerotic freak knows he can't be upfront, come out and say he wants to fuck because he's married and looks like an old lecherous & desiccated corpse, so he asks his best friend "Mr. Chomo Chowder Head" for pickup tips and this is fucking reality. What is this fucking world? Ugly. Sick.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

If dems do not come up with a coherent response with how they will handle red state party dictatorships, then the future project of reforming is already lost. Each one is a bastion for fascism to hold on to the gains it has made under MAGA style fascism along with the power grabs that preceded it.

Maybe we shouldn’t have downplayed the threat model of a reverse occupation by the federal government and their deputized enforcers

bsky.app/profile/utop...
something very cool about the rising republican state party dictatorship model of ripping away local governance from blue municipalities (in this case, the entire KCMO PD is controlled by a state controlled board) is that they introduce a novel mechanism, by proxy, to control the entire city budget.
Kansas City faces a looming budget deficit projected to be at $100 million in 2027, and the city has already implemented a hiring freeze in response. On top of that, the Board of Police Commissioners is calling for a nearly 22% increase in funding for the department next year.

As I have said before, the model of the future is republican state party dictatorships. In states like Missouri, North Carolina, etc, state level republicans are intent on stripping away every democratic mechanism that voters have to self government for their municipalities, cities, and policing.
“When the 8 African American sheriffs took over the largest counties in North Carolina, it became a threat to the good ol’ boy system,” says the sheriff of Charlotte. These new sheriffs broke ties with ICE.

But GOP lawmakers cracked down this week, overbidding the governor’s veto to adopt this law:
North Carolina GOP Is Cracking Down on the Black Sheriffs Who Stood Up to ICE
Boosted by new supermajorities, Republicans are closing in on legislation to mandate more collaboration with ICE and preempt local policies hard-won by immigrants’ rights advocates.

addendum to agree with this. yes the writer is attempting to do the NYT patented knowing, above-it-all house style. it just is a) exceptionally ill-judged b) done poorly in any case c) coupled with a glamorous, high-status photo shoot and a plug for the book bsky.app/profile/davi...
There's way too much NYT discourse on here already but re: The Big Olivia Nuzzi Feature, I am pretty squarely against the Times thing of doing a long feature story about someone disreputable and doing it in that kind of arch "get a load of this asshole" tone. It's still a big feature about them!

This is a really gross example of sexual harassment - it's not pickup tips, it's harassing a junior colleague. Summers should be stripped of his university titles for this.

made a similar point on the opinions podcast this week in response to the idea that epstein is a dead end. not only are actual voters interested in this but it divides the gop and puts pressure on the president. it would be political malpractice to treat it as a sideshow
The usual suspects are telling Dems that Epstein won’t win elections, get back to “affordability” and I think my head might explode. www.offmessage.net/p/force-a-re...

KIRO 7 ran an article and two TV pieces on the theft of a box truck full of arcade PCBs, artwork, and machines from my workplace yesterday. If anyone in the Seattle area sees someone offloading a ton of CPS2/NAOMI/Neo Geo PCBs, stuff of that nature, please reach out.

The line is not that Marjorie Taylor Greene has seen the error of her ways and realized that she, in all her idealism, was snookered by bad actors and conspiratorial pedophiles.

It is that she enabled them until it became so obvious that she either had to turn on her masters or share their guilt.

Not to get all Sun Tzu on it, but when the enemy is weak and divided amongst itself, you do not relieve the enemy by allowing their partisans into your camp. You drive them closer together, force them into tighter company, and intensify their conflict.

Yes. And I'm careful to say "online discourse" because actual educators typically do not think like Josh does. Unfortunately many politicians and powerful people listen more to guys like Josh than to actual educators! bsky.app/profile/cars...
I work at a university and this guy is a massive asshole who would be laughed out of any room with actual educators in it. Accommodations help people succeed and are available to every student. It’s GOOD that people do better when they have support.

A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)
