Eingebürgerte Scottish lass in Germany. Writing. Translating. Riesling. Not all at the same time.

If I have one tip for people coming to Scotland, it’s this - slow down. Take the back roads. Don’t rush from the airport or the ferry to get up north.

There’s so much to see on the way. Here’s Forres, Dundee, Fife, and Angus.

New discovery: During excavations in Cologne, archaeologists have unearthed a lararium, a household shrine, dating back to the 2nd century. This discovery is considered unique north of the Alps. Similar examples were found in Pompeii and Herculaneum.

This would have been a good point for someone to have asked, is that really how things work? Or is vacuum in fact an excellent insulator? www.ft.com/content/a5cf...

This makes me mad. There are good use cases - My mum’s 80yr friend is now wary about using her Meta raybans.

She is partially sighted and they help her read menus, describe her surroundings etc. But she didn’t want to wear them in Germany cause she’s been told they are illegal. (They aren’t).
if anyone approaches you wearing smart glasses it should be perfectly legal to punch them right in the smart glasses

Don’t know about the US, but my Gen Z kids literally can’t earn enough to pay €1000/month rent AND save for a house deposit. It’s not the avocados or the juice that’s the problem.

I've never heard anyone complain about the Italian in a Verdi or a Puccini, because we all had an understanding that there was artistry in language that went beyond the meaning.

There's so much beauty in how a word sounds. And if you really love music, you should be able to appreciate that.

So effed up that wearing a mask and avoiding crowded places for a couple of weeks before one of the most important events of your life is reported as ‘extreme’.
“athletes who get one chance to perform on a true world stage every four years take every possible precaution to be in the best condition possible when it’s time to compete”

For most people, the pandemic days of masking are behind us. In certain corners of the Winter Olympics, though, things still look a lot like they did in Covid times. Some athletes are taking extreme measures to stay healthy. n.pr/4akK70l

Lovely thread
1. Back in the early 80s I had a penfriend in Japan. We shared a love of music and she sent me a cassette tape of an artiste called Akiko Yano - descrbied as the Joni Mitchell of Japanese music. I played that tape to death, and eventually it broke or I lost it or something.

Way back when, we were watching Britain’s Got Talent, and one of the contestants said his husband was the love of his life.

My son asked if men could marry men. I said yes. And women could marry women.

He said. Oh. Ok.

It’s not at all hard.
always so funny to me when people are like “how am I supposed to explain Gay to my kids?” my kid asks me way harder shit all the time. “why did they build the road this way? why are some people bad?” I don’t know. please ask me about Gay
