Eingebürgerte Scottish lass in Germany. Writing. Translating. Riesling. Not all at the same time.

If I have one tip for people coming to Scotland, it’s this - slow down. Take the back roads. Don’t rush from the airport or the ferry to get up north.

There’s so much to see on the way. Here’s Forres, Dundee, Fife, and Angus.

I still know my childhood phone number. Don’t know my current home phone number by heart.
I had a job like this at a wholesale florist order desk when I was just starting out, and I still remember a lot of the codes. I’ll probably remember the ones for long stem roses and babies breath until I die. 😂

To translate is to leave something, almost everything, out.

Translation is a conscious process where the elements that are put aside are as important as those that we choose to keep. AI, thus, cannot translate because it is incapable of understanding the act of leaving behind.

Was telling daughter about the ALDI cashiers before scanner tills - they knew all the prices, entered into till with one hand while throwing groceries with the other hand, all while carrying out a conversation. Amazing braintraining.

Child at the podium: “A woo woo woo.”

Mamdani: That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan. Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city—and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

The top result when I search "eat dirt" (for translation reasons) is a resounding "Yes! You should totally eat dirt!" Immediately followed by a "Hey, maybe don't eat dirt." I feel we, as a society, have gone astray.

The Epstein files show Epstein making significant payments to foreign government officials through their spouses. In addition to Lord Mandelson, he also paid the wife of German defense minister Karl zu Guttenberg. And others.

Who else could rhyme 'buttresses' with 'confesses'?
"...that your central girders would not have given way,
At least many sensible men do say,
Had they been supported on each side with buttresses,
At least many sensible men confesses,
For the stronger we our houses do build,
The less chance we have of being killed."

Just saying.

This account posted one of Pam’s paintings a couple of years ago. I loved her work so much, I bought a print. She and her partner were so kind and helpful when the print got lost in the post.

Sadly, Pam passed away a while back.
