If I have one tip for people coming to Scotland, it’s this - slow down. Take the back roads. Don’t rush from the airport or the ferry to get up north.

There’s so much to see on the way. Here’s Forres, Dundee, Fife, and Angus.

Funnily enough, the movie they filmed earlier this month is a sci-fi film, a ‘theatrical adaptation of the award-winning novel ATHOS 2643 by Nils Westerboer’.

Anyone in Würzburg? The St Andreas church in Sanderau is empty at the moment as it was used as a movie set last week.

Without the benches, the stunning brutalist architecture is even more striking. You can really appreciate the light and shadow effects from the huge skylights. #brutalist
A concrete triangular roof form with window slits through which light pours into the church below, the organ and chancel almost dwarfed by the space above. Another view of the dramatic roof form with the windows illuminating the concentric paving of the floor The top of the pyramid was set onto the side panels in one piece, according to a local woman who remembered seeing the church built. The chancel is concrete, in fitting with the architecture. During services, it’s often softened by the use of tablecloths, candles, and flowers.

A company that spent £130m+ on admin and technology that doesn’t work would be out of the market pretty damn quick.
The University of Nottingham’s University and College Union has accused the university of severe mismanagement, citing costly blunders such as Project Transform (‘a disastrous attempt to overhaul student administration, at a cost of £82 million’); Unicore (‘a £35 million flawed finance and HR system’) and Campus Solutions (‘a students records system plagued with technical failures’ which drains £16 million a year.) The university is clearly an over-managed, bloated, bureaucratic mess. At the same time, educational institutions cannot be everything to everyone, and if they are to function as corporate enterprises, run by market forces, then it makes sense to make cuts in the name of efficiency. The sad reality is that UK applications for undergraduate language degrees have fallen significantly (down more than a fifth from 2019 to 2025: fewer than 3 per cent of A-level entries for summer exams in 2025 were for foreign languages).

Just had a thought about the language Johnson uses - calling the experts who predicted a grim economic impact ‘gloomsters’, rather than say ‘pessimists’.

He makes them sound like ridiculous fools by using a funny word, and minimises their expertise and insights.

Your reminder that the EU offered to freeze Brexit talks in 2020 so we could focus on Covid but Johnson said no. He then fucked up both: partying while 23,000 needlessly died & did a Brexit so shit the economic impact (-8% GDP) is worse than predictions he described as “the work of gloomsters”
