The government claims two weeks of surveillance footage from Broadview ICE Detention Center has been "irretrievably destroyed" and won’t be produced as evidence in a lawsuit against the government over abhorrent conditions there:

There's a lot going on here. The mayor is mischaracterizing protesters, and real threats have been made (America 2025). Whatever one's thoughts are on how this should be handled, the order itself is a tool for further restricting demonstrations and reporting outside the detention center.

A Charlotte pastor said Border Patrol came into his church and made an arrest in front of children. They cried “a lot,” he said.

“We are trying to clean the property. We didn’t know this is gonna happen.”

I really respect how much American corporations are committed to killing their customers unless absolutely forced not to.
Congress’s shutdown deal eliminated key food safety rules, blocking agencies from enforcing measures to prevent contamination and trace outbreaks. This rollback has coincided with a surge in hospitalizations and deaths from foodborne illnesses.
Shutdown Deal Kills Rules to Prevent Food Contamination and Foodborne Illnesses
The gutting of these rules coincides with a huge increase in hospitalizations and deaths from foodborne illnesses.

Remembering when people told me in late 2024 that "Trump couldn't create his own police force because federalism" mmhmm
With @arynbraun.bsky.social, this week we ran this big look at what ICE/CBP has become under Donald Trump and how the agencies increasingly resemble a sort of national police force he can send to whatever city he likes to intimidate people:

It’s heartbreaking to watch this terror campaign start in a new city. Solidarity and love from Chicago. If there’s anything I think we’ve learned here, it’s that courage is contagious as hell and most people *really* hate fascists. Come together and fight hard, Charlotte ❤️
As always, if you see something that you suspect could be an immigration enforcement action in progress, call our hotline at (336) 543-0353 or the hotline number in the About tab so we can verify and provide support.

It takes years of public meetings and debate for citizens to get a sparse few concrete barriers to protect cyclists, but it can be done on a whim to protect state sponsored torturers.
More concrete barriers are being added on Beach Street outside the ICE processing center in suburban Broadview after a clash between protesters and agents led to at least 21 arrests and four law enforcement officers injured.

The Trump administration on Friday released the names of 614 people whose Chicago-area immigration arrests may have violated a 2022 consent decree, and only 16 of them have criminal histories that present a “high public safety risk.”
Only 2.5% on list of 614 ‘Operation Midway Blitz’ arrestees had criminal histories, DOJ records show
Meanwhile, the other 598 people on the list had no listed criminal history at all.

at one point, i watched a cook county sheriff’s officer (who appears to be in charge) point out a priest in the crowd.

he and a couple officers then went into the crowd , dragged him into the street, and arrested him.

situation is still tense as crowd jostles with police to get into the street.

NEW: @propublica.org investigated the Chicago apartment raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours. They find:

- NONE of the arrested were criminally charged
- NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists."
- ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

Another Africa ICE removal underway, via a private jet operated by Journey Aviation. Like Journey’s ICE trip to Liberia last week, this is likely a third-country removal.

In the six weeks the South Sudan 7 were stuck in Djibouti, this aircraft was used to swap out ICE guards every few weeks.

An interesting tidbit in the joint status report filed in the Broadview ICE facility case today:

ICE says video from inside the facility "between October 19, 2025, and October 31, 2025, has been irretrievably destroyed" and can't be produced in discovery.

What the Epstein files show is the *solidarity* of many men-across class, race, religion, profession & party affiliation-in the global political project of keeping the boot on women's necks.

People have no problem understanding class solidarity among the rich. Why can't they see gender solidarity?
Like I dunno, maybe the reason it took a lady to break open the story of all the men protecting the dude trafficking underage girls is because the male journos were all emailing him making jokes about it?

agreed. it's "the guy who makes you uncomfortable for reasons you won't articulate isn't the future. this guy who looks and talks like you is."
You have to understand what pieces like this from the NYT are and are not.

They are not an honest assessment of the state of politics today.

They are a negotiation tactic—an effort by a calcified, right-leaning legacy institution to steer the discourse in a direction more palatable to elites.
