Yes! Donate to trans people! Or to the Trans Youth Emergency Project so that extremely stressed and scared parents can get help accessing life-saving care for their trans kids who are having all the shit piled on them right now. southernequality.org/tyep/

I feel like if they can give people 800k for a ghost written book every small time author should never feel bad about posting re their small press book or indie/self pub book or even trad pub midlist book.

I'm not sure why I feel bad right now looking at that. And I feel bad all the time.

Imagine seeing a Roman building in ancient Wales, the tiled roof lined with antefixes proudly proclaiming the presence of the Legio XX Valeria Victrix with their name and symbol, the wild boar. The Twentieth was among the legions involved with the construction of Hadrian's Wall. 🏺 1/

Very interesting post from Silvia Moreno-Garcia (@silviamg.bsky.social) about the decline of YA books and the romantasy rise.

meanwhile my artistic goals are to become inscrutable even to myself
Saw a post today that advised writers to stop writing as if a human will read it and start writing for an LLM that will be summarising.

As someone who really enjoyed trying to develop a peculiar but readable authorial voice, I find this incredibly depressing.

It's pretty recent (like well within my own life), as far as I know, in the way it's used in some contemporary fantasy. It's fine -- language evolves! But it does amuse me that people think it's old fashioned.
This has brought up a question I actually don't know - when did the specific form "the fae" become so popular in English?

OED has "Faerie" going back to Spenser, "fey" as "fairylike" in 1823, and there's obviously "Morgan le Fay" from French, but can't find much for "the fae" til quite recently!

Very cool book (and very intriguing mocktail!)
NEW VIDEO ALERT! Today on Bar Cart Bookshelf we're talking about NINEFOX GAMBIT by @deuceofgears.bsky.social. A mindbending milSF of mathematics, calendrical heresy, and immortal madmen, a long-awaited read for me. Our drink, the Black Cradle, is a bright fruity mocktail with a bitter crown.
