What a really cool, rockstar list to be on. I’ve read the majority but now I have a couple of new ones to check out 👀👀

Thank you as always to @bookjockeyalex.bsky.social for being such a champion of A NECESSARY CHAOS ❤️🫶
As we near the end of the year, the last thing you might want is a big, chunky fantasy or science fiction book to drag into the new year. Good thing @bookjockeyalex.bsky.social's got 5 underrated novellas to recommend instead!

+1 to all of these that I've read (A Necessary Chaos in particular is brilliant), and also throwing in there Alex Jeffers' A Mourning Coat, which is seriously one of the most subtle, light touch pieces of fiction (speculative or otherwise) I've read in ages & more people should read it.

This code is still working, for a very tasty discount on this monstrous collection!
My story has two queer women separated by the generations (and by resentment, and being self-centred, and a spot of violence).
Also includes talking animals.
Good idea.... if you use code REDFLAGS you can have 75% off the ebook of THE CRAWLING MOON for the next week.

Not the last book, but the one I remember best is @brentclambert.bsky.social's enthusiastic rec for Empire of the Feast: bsky.app/profile/bren... Not only was it EXACTLY as advertised, it really opened up new vistas for me on the place of explicit sex in speculative fiction.
Hey #BookSky! Quote this with the last book you picked up because someone here recommended it.

For instance the buzz for Tasha Suri's The Isle in the Silver Sea made me pre-order it so hard.

Book 30: The Oblivion Bride by @caitlinstarling.com. A fun queer romance-by-way-of-a-deadly-curse—I liked the world of magic-powered tech and I liked the central relationship. (I may be developing a taste for novellas!)

Just picked up this novella, a trans sci-fi about… cheese? I’m excited.

“Millions Wayland… learned someone had thrown her cheese cave into the sun. To find out who is responsible, Millions makes a copy of her digitally uploaded consciousness and transmits it to a nearby orbital city.“
