Not an exaggeration at all to say that the feeling in Minneapolis is that the entire metro area is being treated as occupied territory by federal agents. Impossible to overstate how overwhelmingly people here do not like it. This does not feel sustainable.

Wanted to shout out this as Most Influential Post of the Year for me. I got a lot less precious and a lot more tactical about what I sent where, and I think about this when I consider giving up on a story.
Writers: from my Submission Grinder dashboard, I encourage you to persist. All stories submitted at least 10 times have been sold. The longest gathered 28 rejections before the acceptance. Some found their right editors/magazine quickly, others take more than two years of trying. Keep writing.

Just signed contract with @adventitiouswords.bsky.social to publish my wife’s favorite short story of mine, which is also a (heavily revised) version of the story that got me writing shorter work again. It is about a prison break, Io, sulfur, and solidarity.

Actually that last rt is getting me in terms of info: to see the DOE proposed rollback on reqs for accessibility in new construction, go here www.regulations.gov/document/DOE..., and read it, then comment. You could use the LRT as a template, but it's always good to mix it up a little.

idk i think it will be a shame if people shy away from writing or buying stories surrounding AI because of the Current Craze, bc ... Dirty Computer is not about computers. R.U.R. is not about literal mechanized workers.

literally nothing worse (there are many things worse) than being a scifi author who loves writing AI & robots in the Current Era of Tech. forever grateful i didn't query my novel a year or two ago. see perfectionism & retooling your ideas is good, actually, even if then you seem less Prescient.

Wait I just realized you can post whatever you want on Social Media. Look at this book I got at Dreamhaven. The creature on the cover is a goth (it was published in 1978).
