A thread I'll be adding to hopefully as new titles are announced: the upcoming 2026 books I've been making an excited note of in my diary so far.

Old favourite authors, new voices that just sound too intriguing, and very occasionally a stunning bit of cover art that really caught my eye!

Hi #SFF #Booksky, any scifi book podcast recommendations for John?

I've heard good things about The Hugonauts, and the @clarkesworldmagazine.com Podcast.

And I remember enjoying Welcome to Night Vale, a classic atmospheric, uncanny narrative podcast.

Hi there. Excellent thread. Can you recommend any good sci fi book podcasts?

Sprayed edge editions of SF Williamson's brand new A War of Wyverns, published new year's day, have arrived!

I really enjoyed the first in the series, A Language of Dragons (think wartime Bletchley Park meets dragons), so I've been looking forward to this!

Temperatures have dropped.

For anyone sleeping rough, this can be fatal.

Alert Streetlink now👉 orlo.uk/AboiG if you see anyone sleeping rough who might be in need of support, and Streetlink will help get them out of the cold.

And I'm reading the YA Book of the Month for Jan, His Face is the Sun by Michelle Jabès Corpora: an ancient Egyptian inspired fantasy alternating viewpoints between a princess , a priestess, a rebel and a thief, all entangled in a race to claim the Pharaoh's throne.

Great fun so far!

The Waterstones #SFF Book of The Month for January is Immortal by Sue Lynn Tan, a standalone #romantasy set in the author's world of the Celestial Kingdom series, inspired by Chinese mythology.

The heir to a precarious throne feels herself dangerously attracted to the ruthless God of War...

This beauty has been in the oven a while, basting in some serious juices.
However, the wait has given my daughter a chance to catch up in the series. Can’t wait for us to read it at the same time.
I’m so ready for this!

Watch out, I think I spotted a new year lurking just around the corner of midweek, and I for one am not at all prepared for this encounter.

Aside from all the real harm to the creative process, creative industry, people's *brains*, integrity of information and images and archives, THIS is such a huge part of why I both instinctively, and after quite some consideration, do not want genAI.

Just finished reading Riley August's "The Last Gifts of the Universe," which I found recommended on BlueSky (I don't recall by whom). This quiet, deep read has been the perfect companion at the end of the year.
Next up in my paperbacks of the year roundup is @rileyaugust.bsky.social's excellent The Last Gifts of the Universe.

A short read that packs an emotional punch & brings a very human and real feeling to the stars through its archivist/explorer narrator Scout, their brother, & cat Pumpkin 😻

I have been infested by THE WORKS OF VERMIN by @hironennes.bsky.social and can only sing thanks to the mechanics of my transformation. What an absolutely brilliant work of art, and if it isn’t on lists for Best Novel next year, I shall dive into the Catoptric.

I'm ridiculously fond of ASUNDER. It made @kerstinhall.bsky.social an instant pre-order for me for whatever she writes next. Thanks @solarisbooks.bsky.social for bringing out a UK paperback edition, hope many more people pick up this book which was so deserving of its Nebula and Locus nominations.

Why not preorder them something to look forward to in 2026?

There are lots of amazing #signed & special editions available here: www.waterstones.com/campaign/spe... (don't leave it too long though, they're very limited editions!)

If you like a book?

Review it. Ask your library to buy it. If you can afford it, buy a copy for a friend. Recommend it wherever you're social. Send the author an email, or a skeet, or a Ko-Fi. Write fanfic. Blow under the wings of the paper airplane so it can fly a little farther.

I *loved* this book. Couldn't put it down; I devoured it in a day and a half.
Dec 23rd's book advent is @aptshadow.bsky.social's Shroud: a wonderfully dark and tense tale of two women accidentally stranded on an incredibly inhospitable planet, a perilous journey to survive, and all the fantastic big ideas and alien weirdness you might love and expect from this author!
