Massive thanks to Locus & @abigailnussbaum.bsky.social for reviewing The Salt Oracle 🖤🖤🖤
Explore @NussbaumAbigail’s review of @rainewilson.bsky.social: “Wilson describes THE SALT ORACLE as her attempt at dark academia, and indeed, despite the novel’s borderline-apocalyptic setting… some familiar academic quirks quickly establish themselves.”

Wee boost of this as it's the last day to nominate for the @bsfa.bsky.social awards 🖤
It's odd posting about awards eligibility & asking please consider me when my book's barely out so not many of you have read it.

But I have one sole eligible thing this year, and I'm proud of it in all its briny strangeness. So hey, please consider THE SALT ORACLE if you're nominating? 🖤🖤🖤

Genuinely delights me that Solaris collects genretwisty authors like a lil dragon gathering its hoard 🐉
Genre rules are only guidelines anyway!

Want some Dragons in your Western? A locked boat murder mystery in your sci-fantasy? GBBO in outer space? A Necromantic bildungsroman? Searing examinations of war with bonus military Pteranodons? A literal plot device?

We've got all that and more!

I won't repost the fox killer but fwiw the only correct response if your kid comes out as gay/trans is:
1. Okay. I love you.
That's it.

It is, however, also natural to feel fear and anger *for them* - that their life just got that bit harder and more hurtful because of other people's idiocy. 1/2

A beautiful thread, both for the brilliant art and the love shining through it all
THREAD.

My parents' cat Bridget vanished. As the weeks dragged on they became ever more worried, so to distract himself my dad began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up at some of art & music's most important moments.

A thread to read up and down.
Why decline all these chances to defend feminism? Because to participate would be accepting the premise that our rights and humanity are up for debate in the first place.

Once you’ve conceded that it’s reasonable to ask whether women’s equality was a mistake, you’ve already lost.

Hugely appreciate the authors who are willing to do this kind of self scrutiny about the community labour (which is what blurbing is) they/we do. As Kate says - a big part of this kind of bias lies outwith the author, but asking the question of yourself is still so important. 💪🏽
This was a busy blurbing year for me. I was just looking over the books I got sent to blurb/endorse this year and 92% were written by white authors. This is a cycle that is at least partly on me to break, and I'm going to put some thought into how to do so, but also, publishing, you have some issues
December 19, 2025 at 4:34 PM
Fronds I have finished my list of pre-holiday writing jobs!

I have one during-holiday writing task (or two), because us authors know how to take a break, don't we? BUT STILL if we pretend we can't see those, then WOO HOO!!!
