This has been two months in the making. The essay was written in September, the podcast recorded in October, and now both are available in November.

So here it is: my 10k word essay on the overlong and bafflingly insubstantial 2005 vampire historical thriller about Dracula, Kostova's THE HISTORIAN
Reading “The Historian” by Elizabeth Kostova
In which I return to Elizabeth Kostova’s The Historian (2005), a literary fiction vampire novel about historians fighting against Dracula across three generations—which once meant so much to …

When I think of AI I think of Prince being asked about holograms of dead celebrities:

“That's the most demonic thing imaginable.… If I was meant to jam with Duke Ellington, we would have lived in the same age. That whole virtual reality thing... it really is demonic. And I am not a demon."

I fancied getting back into sculpting which I hadn't done since school. This was based on my Pedro monster I did for one of my books (first pic). SO MUCH FUN. He keeps an eye on me in the studio now. #monster #sculpture #airdryclay #cutemonster #sillymonster #funny #pinkbottom

Almost no novel, no album, no picture, no made object in history has perfectly replicated the image its creator had in their head when they first sat down to make it. That's sort of the point. And if it does, it's because the imaginative part of the process has become intuitive through practice.

I'm watching an adult creator get systematically cut off from every income stream by payment processors and now debankment could be on the table. She makes legal content. They are trying to shut her up and hope that we'll shut up too.

We must get louder. Call Visa and MC. Tell them this will stop.
#SaveSpeech

Ana's situation has gotten more severe. This is blatantly targetted debanking and [extremely unfortunate] proof that these call campaigns are getting under paypros skin

Keep calling Visa and MC and demanding they stop discriminating against adult content!

Ana decided to call out payment processors and their unilateral response was attempting to fuck up her life and that should be bigger news than it is as of now
The full count as of today:

YouTube suspended
Twitch banned 3x
Patreon suspended (temporary)
Patreon 3x audio flags (one false posi)
Ko-fi suspended (indefinite?)
Buy Me a Coffee suspended
Vice reporting censored
Pornhub censored 3x times
Fansly censored 1x
Is it really a conspiracy to say Ana is being explicitly flagged by finance bros when she's now been banned (or censored) from Twitch, Patreon, Buy Me A Coffee, Ko-Fi, and *PornHub*??

this is gorgeous and a super cool concept, which is why being cured with the "cannot unsee it" vision where you notice that every illustration of a woman in here is sexualized in some way is really frustrating sometimes

We really need to objectify men more, it's the only way to equality lmao
It's 20 years since @seanphillips.bsky.social and I exchanged a sketchbook back and forth in the mail, a drawn &painted call and response. INTERSECTIONS may be out of print but here is a flip through that sketchbook. You can still find the book out there :)

This is different but: Virginia Woolf edited some of EM Forster’s writing, and sometimes in his books there’s a sentence that’s very obviously her voice, and I just LOVE it. I love that you can see the place where she said “what if was phrased this way instead?”
Yes; and I want to make a different point.

Editors *shouldn’t* be invisible. They should have bylines. YOU DESERVE to know who shapes the stories you read. Editors do that no less than writers/reporters do. Very often, they’re the ones who assigned the piece, not the writer, and who headlines it.
Editors have a really hard job, and the good ones can make something unreadable readable, and the great ones can make something unreadable into something good. But they're basically invisible, until someone tries to write without one.
