A Sweetgreen salad is like $17 and for the same price I can get a really incredible hot smoked salmon Caesar salad at my local bakery/cafe.

performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...

if you voted in Seattle you gotta make sure your ballot counted now
There are 1,700 ballots that need signature confirmation. That is enough to change the election.

Go. Check. Your. Ballot.

This is SO funny. Why is anyone thinking about that at all? Just start with a big car chase scene and have Bond almost get blown up, and maybe another character can say “that was a close one” and Bond can shrug and drink a martini.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

It’s funny whenever a magazine or website does a jarred tomato sauce test to find the best one. It’s always Rao’s! There’s no other major competitor. Just say you’re looking for the second best one.

Now, that a diff than a done deal or that it’s irreversible esp if there’s suddenly a surge of pressure, but I think it’s a…
Yeah, despite the rumblings from other reporters this still feels like another bit of Axios wishcasting.

What's for certain is that any Democrat who votes to cave now and betray the base in exchange for nothing at all will live to regret it.
does this sound like a deal that’s done or someone trying to pressure dems into one

a good reminder to Never Trust Axios. also, if you're worried, calling or emailing your senators to scream at them not to cave is a good way to channel your rage!
it’s very difficult at this point to figure out if there is actual movement towards a Dem cave or just a Republican whisper campaign to Axios to make it seem like there’s a Dem cave and I’m going to hold my fire on any of it until something actually happens (or not)
