Glad it’s finally announced, and it looks better than I first thought. My wallet screams, though.

Delighted to say that an updated and expanded version of my series on one of the most extraordinary acts in aviation history will be running on The Up Front over the coming weeks.

And even better: it's now completely free to read.
In December 1941, Pan Am flight 18602 was trapped the wrong side of the Pacific by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

To get home, her civilian crew would need to do the near-impossible: circumnavigate the world in commercial seaplane.

In our new series, we tell tell their remarkable story.

We all know - and have known for decades - just how important women are in preserving and championing Star Trek. From running the first conventions to our current podcasters, women have always been a major presence in the fandom.

You are valid and we see you, ladies! Keep kicking ass 🖖🏻💜✨

The GFRobot article about Star Trek fans being majority male/conservative is still going around several days later, so I was to say 1) don't click on it or they will "write" more just like it & 2) the site is known trash.

Here's my Star Trek Feminist Community starter pack!

It's very much "go ahead and cite the Deep Magic to me, witch, I shipped it when it was written"
I thought the premise was lovely.

Can I share something with you? I'm really really scared of the day when one of the #StarTrekTNG main cast members dies. I remember the days when DeForest Kelley and Leonard Nimoy died vividly. But #TNG is *my* #StarTrek. I just can't imagine at all how I will cope. 🙈

I remember when so many nerds were begging for serialization, but maybe we should go back to the long overarching story mixed with standalone episodes format.

I mean, sometimes you gotta take a break from your intergalactic war to play baseball with some jerk Vulcans.

Also it's worth noting something about the scene where Scotty tries to talk to a 1980s computer in Star Trek IV.

When he realises it ISN'T a talk-to-it computer, he proceeds to type INSANELY fast.

You know. Like someone who only talks to computers when he wants simple shit done. Not complex shit.
I feel like (as with so many things with AI) this is techbros confusing the affordances of science fiction *media* with reality, when those affordances are often driven by the needs of the *media* rather than the SF.

I.E. they talk to the computer on Star Trek because typing is visually boring!
Can you imagine a writers retreat where everyone is talking to their computer all the time? Or a classroom? Or trying to work in an open plan office where everyone in every cubicle is talking in loud clear voices and then things go wrong because their computer heard Bill talking two cubicles over...

Okay. So. Amazing scenes playing out at the vets when i arrived to pick up Napoleon.

Names changed/removed. But get ready for a lost kitty story with a happy ending.

It starts late last year, when the elderly neighbour of a young couple went into a care home /1

Highland cattle are famous for their ability to "disco nap". Normally these brief, efficient sleeps will last between three and twenty minutes, deploying a variety of objects as pillows, including moorland boulders, cars or any particularly large dog or sheep who happens to be nearby.
