As an American stuck hearing whatever horseshit our president thinks up for the last decade (to say nothing of that South African freak), I *know* people are this stupid. But I can’t believe people are *this* stupid.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

As long as @stereogum.com is around, we have a music site that isn't run by private equity, isn't owned by a billionaire, isn't overrun with slop, isn't susceptible to pop-star over-flattery, isn't partnering with U.S. army, and isn't afraid to let me go long on Fiery Furnaces. We can't lose that.

I have always been more of a CD guy (and am not a vinyl listener at all, now) MOSTLY because, as someone who worked at labels, I couldn't believe how craven labels were about their pricing models, an absolute deterrent to starting a sincere collection of new music on the format
Interesting convo with a friend who owns a hip NYC record shop about a sudden renewed interest in CDs, which were a negligible part of his business till recently.

It's the time of the year where I do something I normally don't, which is reviewing box sets and reissues. I'm not much of a critic but I was very impressed by Sony Classical's John Williams box set this year, which licenses 28 different soundtracks from five or six different labels.
Holiday Gift Guide Review: John Williams, 'The Anthology Vol. 1 (1969-1990)' - The Second Disc
Let's look at the numbers: John Williams has been on this mortal plane for 93 years, and has been composing for visual media for 73 of those years. Compact discs have been a part of music lovers' coll...

Really pleasant use of archival material here - the new Wings compilation promoted with an ad done years ago for a late '70s Wings compilation

Chuck Schumer supported stripping people of healthcare, but not for the Democratic Candidate for NYC
It was harder getting endorsements for Zohran Mamdani from Democrats than them caving to Republicans to mutually strip us of healthcare

I don’t know who cares about this and I’m sorry to be a hater, but there is currently an illusionist show on Broadway with guest appearances by The Muppets that does nothing for either genre. Complete oil and water; truly baffling

Intended as a full-blooded reboot, things didn't work out on 2018's The Predator. A visit to the set gave an insight into what went wrong:

Just noticed that you can sing "My kids know me as this ape" to the hook of the electronic favorite "Popcorn," so that's kinda cool

I believe every artist you love has a song, maybe lurking just below the surface of the 3-5 most streamed, that’ll lock you in for awhile, if not forever. Gilson’s fill on “Up the Junction” was such a moment for me. God be with his family and loved ones

Beyond the hooooo boy of doing this without Dante (and, I’d wager, physical animatronic characters), putting this in November is wild since, four years before Die Hard did it, the Christmas-set original film came out in the summer

It is absolutely wild how this stuff is a Voight-Kampff test of how dog stupid you are. “The menu board lists Coca-Cola for 30 cents.” It in fact lists SHLOSKE and DORE for illogical prices

Bumping this one more time because we still need to raise $850 by TOMORROW morning. I have to work a double tomorrow and really need to be able to pay the room off as early as possible. Every dollar is a helpful dollar, and sharing the post is equally helpful! Thank you!!
I know that things are bad all around, between the gov’t shutdown, the SNAP crisis and every other awful thing happening in the world at the moment, but we could really use some help again to keep our roof for the next week. Anything helps, even if it’s just sharing this post!

May our civil servants learn this, live this, internalize this. No one left behind to suffer, not now not ever
basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.
