Instead of bringing back Bond, they should get directors and actors to each do their own Bond movie as part of an anthology series where each episode is a 90-minute genre piece about ANOTHER DOUBLE-0. Gillian Anderson as “Bond”? She’s 005. Nolan wants to do spy-fi? It’s 009. Let everyone cook.
What is your most controversial James Bond opinion?

(These may be discussed in a future podcast)

James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

It’s really complex and about states of mind. Upper class is very very limited - high hereditary aristocracy basically.

I knew a *literal heir to a baronetcy* who said they were middle class because they didn’t have an estate and he’d only been to a minor private school.

Could someone explain to me what is meant when a British person refers to "the middle class" ? Like, in the US, as I hear it, it basically just means a person who makes a certain amount of money, not too far below and not wildly above the median. Seems like a complex concept when UK writers use it?

Welcome to Derry really interesting.

Great kids on bikes vibe, superb horror moments (the lampshade! The creepy family car! Aaargh). Great decision to build a cast then kill some, nobody feels safe.

Don’t feel like it’s going anywhere but kind of don’t mind.

A few months ago I was at the National Gallery, listening to a podcast executive proclaim the “bright future of audio” while literally haloed by angels in 3 metre tall renaissance masterpiece.

He was out of a job by the summer.

They should stop using it and apply the Digital Harms bill to it because it's CHOCK FULL of the most extreme porn known to man (and all the racism, bile etc etc etc).

Has most of the advantages of a ban with few of the downsides.

genuinely hard to think of another single move the UK govt could do that would do as much good as banning twitter. it's the poison at the root of so much ill

Like if you consider Mary Poppins to be an entity who sleeps, wakes and feeds before leaving again like Pennywise this whole creepy bit is very on point.

But I feel what's to happen....has all happened before.

This is an outstanding post on the criminal justice system. Do read.
New post just out:

Why the criminal justice system should be top of No. 10's "shit list".

No part of the public sector is more broken or brings with it greater political risk. As we saw these past two weeks.

It desperately needs a new approach.

I love Harry’s reporting but even more than that I love his commitment to the bit by being willing to get in it and do the dress up for the camera. My least favourite reporters as a news producer were the ones who thought it was beneath their dignity!

I think there is a good chance the shutdown is still going by Thanksgiving, and that the resultant travel chaos will create enough pressure that the administration will cave on actual concessions before Christmas.

In the UK, a social media company can *take ad money from a fraud*, and if if the fraud is reported, the *bank* has to repay the victim, and the social media company doesn't even have to give the advertising cash to the bank! They make money on the deal!

A May 2025 presentation by its (Meta's) safety staff estimated that the company’s platforms were involved in a third of all successful scams in the U.S. (Think about who these scams target - the sick, homebound elderly)
The documents further note that users who click on scam ads are likely to see more of them because of Meta’s ad-personalization system, which tries to deliver ads based on a user’s interests.

Sliwa is the closest thing to an Arnold Vinnick style Republican you’re ever going to get

He says he got a congratulatory call from Curtis Sliwa, though.
