Instead of bringing back Bond, they should get directors and actors to each do their own Bond movie as part of an anthology series where each episode is a 90-minute genre piece about ANOTHER DOUBLE-0. Gillian Anderson as “Bond”? She’s 005. Nolan wants to do spy-fi? It’s 009. Let everyone cook.
What is your most controversial James Bond opinion?

I mean also said he was political editor of the Sunday times for ten years, when he was in fact in that job for four years. RESIGN!

Good to see so many people who’ve never so much have edited a TikTok have clear views on the edit here. We’re literally talking about a 12 frame flash instead of the cut to crowd and it would be totally unimpeachably legit! I doubt it was even flagged in any edit passes.

Say what you like about the black library, but they’d have seven novels at least one of which was pretty good, if they owned the bond franchise as long as it’s taken me to write this.

To which I say “It’s Bond mate. Nobody cares about the lore.
Bond's first outing in Dr. No was released in 1962, where he was meant to be in his mid 30s.
He has appeared as seven entirely different people since then and should now be in his 90s. Get on with it.”

Depends what you mean by stupid. I can believe Bush II was academically gifted - you can’t fly or navigate a 60s fighter jet if you aren’t - but was a.) incoherent in public speech b.) visibly easily led and badly advised. Idk, is that stupid? Foolish for sure.

Oh yeah the weirdest one in the US is circumcision. Posh people in America circumcise their boys, it’s just a done thing. It’s about penises so nobody talks about it, but it’s definitely a thing. If you don’t know about it, you’re not in the upper class in the USA!

My staff do roll their eyes whenever we get a US story and i look at it and go “well this is a story about class”.
Maybe it’s me that sees it everywhere:)

Bernie Madoff was much more well liked in NYC than trump in his day. Bernie gave money to the right causes, had a foundation, invited the right people over to dinner. Working on the Madoff story, it was clear it was an affinity fraud on the upper class! But nobody said “oh yeah I’m upper class” etc

My grand unified theory of the American class system is they have it in reality but kind of don’t admit it’s real. Like so much of trump’s fury is he’s a billionaire but New York rich people treat him like a schlub because he runs casinos, likes well done steaks and doesn’t go to the opera.

There’s also a wretched subset of people who *pretend* they are upper class. Guy I knew at uni, red trousers every day, everything was “spiffing”, drove a convertible MG.
Mum was a buyer at M&S, dad owned a successful vintage sports car garage. They sent him to downside school & broke his brain.

My favourite one is Hawaii, where knowing what is an appropriate level of aloha for an aloha formal beach party is a whole thing.
Back at uni I was on the British national debate team that toured the USA debating against teams from top colleges and there was a whole etiquette guide.

(Also America has mad class shit going on but they don’t notice it because it operates on a really rarified basis and is different state by state. Try wearing white after Labour Day in the Hamptons or talking about church at a country club in rural Georgia and you’ll see it right away!)

I wore a horsehair wig and gown to work and I bet every American would have said I was upper class (esp given accent and my father was a multimillionaire general).
But I was earning less than the minimum wage. I quit because the stress to money ratio was just too extreme.

The weirdest one is barristers! When I was at the bar, my then girlfriend who worked at Starbucks earned far more than me.
Headline I should have earned more, but I had to pay travel all over the country, my bills to clients (criminals) went unpaid or took years to come in.

Something that complicates it even more recently is we have a high minimum wage, ~$16 and low professional wages. So for example a minimum wage worker makes £25k, a teacher makes £31k.
Progressive taxation and student loans means professionals are often worse off than shop workers.

By the same token, a poet/artist on benefits living with his girlfriend, a teacher earning not much more than the minimum wage = a classic middle class couple at every dinner party.

What your parents did, where you grew up what you do etc etc are all part of it, and plenty of literal millionaires say they are working class!
So for example a plumber or electrician who grew up on a council estate but owns a multimillion turnover business = often working class and proud of it.

It’s like someone doing doughnuts in their car in a parking lot. It’s travelling nowhere, it’s not changing my life, but it’s fun to be inside right now.
