Hellenicish neopagan attorney discussing law, religion, how not to be a terrible person, and other musings. Never selling anything.

In case I get doxxed, all opinions are my own and I'm not your lawyer.

This. And also be careful not to make it really easy to doxx you based on what you post.

This means:

No selfies.
None of the "about me" posts that reveal information about who you are (as opposed to stuff you like).
My advice to most people is to use a screen name / pen name to protect yourself. It's going to get ugly.
So, in the past week, we learned:

1. Epstein thinks that 45/47 went down on 42.

2. SCOTUS declined to take a case to overturn same sex marriage.

Coincidence?

I just have to note that a $2,300 a month apartment in Queens is only that "affordable" because of rent stabilization.

I really made the right call moving out of NYC.
Grandma-killer says what? (This is deeply deranged and Mamdani got the apartment when he was making $47K)

How much would it be worth to be the owner of the world's largest tarot deck?
Yeah. I think I'm going to reach out to some of my local print shops and get some quotes on all 72, on cardstock, with an image on the reverse.

It might end up cost prohibitive, but it also might not!

I'm asking because I had a dream where I was giving a comedic performance at the local Renn Faire where I did free 3 card tarot readings for audience members from an enormous deck.

And it honestly seemed like a lot of fun.
Weird question: Does a display size tarot deck actually exist? I'm taking about one big enough to display individual cards on an easel for an audience.

I have seen individual cards that big, but I'm not sure if they are one off printings or if some tremendously large deck is out there for real.

Look if there is someone who served as legal counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee telling you there is a case, then at the very least there is real disagreement that can be fought in the courts.

That is if leadership actually cared about stopping these cuts which they clearly don’t.

Harvard was always going to cave because it's Harvard and access to power is, and always has been, the bottom line there.
Harvard just quietly dismantled its undergraduate school’s offices serving minority and women student groups amid the university’s ongoing battle with Donald Trump.

Being together in the woods had been magical, but would she still choose him after all this time?
Yuri stared up at the second floor window, watching as a shadow passed behind it. Would Katya know him anymore? He'd been away ten years. He remained frozen. "You getting out?" asked the driver. Pulled from his reverie, Yuri settled into his seat. "Take me to the hotel," he said.

I just watched a CLE on the practical uses of AI for appellate lawyers.

Despite the presenter's best efforts, I still came away with the sense that there just aren't any uses of AI for legal writing that are both practical and ethical.

4.5 million children.

In the next 5 years.

I have no words.
14 *million* excess deaths.

If you are on the left and cite the Lancet study on Gaza mortality you had better take this every bit as seriously.

I feel both old and baffled at what that must do to one's view of the world.

Funny enough, Jesus had pretty much this attitude if you really pay attention to when he talks to assholes in the New Testament.
The rise of people like Lander and Walz, whose ideologies don't exactly match mine but have the exact right combination of "love thy neighbor" and "fuck you, asshole" attitudes, is massive positive for people who care about left of center politics

Democratic leadership needs to accept that impeachment votes are SYMBOLIC right now and until at least 2026.

I, and I think most Democratic voters, prefer the symbol of a defiantly raised first to that of possum playing dead.

Impeachment IS innately political.

And one of the things that political acts are for is to show your own base that you see the bad things being done and are willing to bring the righteous fight even if you will likely not win.

Why don't Democrats ever seem to get that these days?
3. What I said before Al’s resolution is still true. The short version is that impeachment innately political and doesn’t accomplish anything unless it is followed by a vote to convict in the Senate. If you don’t have the votes, you make the case… you don’t rush the vote. bsky.app/profile/cast...
Recently, I hosted a town hall where I was asked whether or not we should impeach Donald Trump. It's a question I've gotten a lot lately, so I wanted to share my thoughts with you.
