Eight things to do in ‘26 (Accountability Posting)

we almost never saw pieces like this when the prevailing epstein accusations were based on totally made up claims from the right. now that the actual evidence in the files implicates trump and other right wing figures, we get 5 articles like this a day.
Last week the far right started peddling a narrative that the outrage over Epstein is a moral panic. Today, like clockwork, a more polite version of that narrative appears in the Atlantic.

wild AI story from the Olympics
ice dancers were told to use songs "in the style of the 1990s." One Czech pair tried using AI to pump out a song to skate to, but their AI bot fully plagiarized "You Get What You Give" by The New Radicals and they had to change it

If you’re wondering “Was Eddie Bauer owned by Private Equity at any point in the recent past?” the answer would be “Yes, by Golden Gate Capital from 2009-2021.” Article below is unrelated I suppose.
The operator of Eddie Bauer, a sportswear company known for selling goose-down coats and other outdoor apparel, filed for bankruptcy on Monday, citing declining sales and supply chain issues.
Eddie Bauer Files for Bankruptcy
The sportswear company’s operator cited a shift in consumer preferences, rising inflation and elevated tariffs. It is the third bankruptcy since Eddie Bauer’s founding in the 1920s.

Son asked if Mike Tyson’s MAHA as meant he was a “sellout like Snoop.”

And I said “No. Think about it. The last time you saw Mike Tyson he was fighting a man half his age for money. You’re not a sellout if you NEED the money.”

This feels like the right parenting move

Again, we get these big pronouncements, these states will sue and the Courts will laugh at the DOJ and the money will be released.

None of that makes for good governance or good policy, but it’s quite something that we’ve already had to do this enough to recognize the pattern.
The Trump administration plans to rescind $600 million in public health funds from four states led by Democrats because it finds the grants “inconsistent with agency priorities,” according to documents reviewed by the NYT

Sorry lady, we go football, music, pretty girls throwing ass and apparently the Olympics in the national divorce.

Oh, we also got Santa.
Megyn Kelly just shouting “FOOTBALL IS OURS” at Piers Morgan about Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl show is the perfect example of this moment in time. Put it in a time capsule and send it out into space.

NYC residents who own cars make 2x those who don’t. @mayor.nyc.gov doesn’t need to tax the rich to close the looming $12.6 billion budget gap, he just needs to make them pay market rate for parking.

My hottest take is that Siciliano Red Zone > Hansen Red Zone.

Retvrn.
After 3 days of GoldZone I have decided that Andrew Siciliano is my best friend and he should be invited to Thanksgiving.

We should do this here, but because of legacy fleets and state speed limit nonsense, it would take some time to become effective.

Capping state speed limits at 65, with 70 being allowed by petition, then electronic limiting at 68 max would be very effective.

Start with commercial vehicles.
This technology already exists and is widely used. It doesn't involve 'government surveillance' and would not allow ICE or any other government agency to stop individual cars.

Just say you think thousands of kids dying every year is worth it so you can speed!

Speed Limiters Now Mandatory in All New EU Cars
Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) isn't an ironclad speeding prevention system, but could be just annoying enough to spark a backlash.

Last year I traveled all the way to rural Vietnam to officiate a friend's wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony that mixed cultures and language, and was a celebration of the best of humanity.

He just sent me this post and said "this is how you lost the war."

“Conservatives who live on their phones are ruining ….” is a pretty good summary of our modern age.
In the past year or so, this new conservative vanguard has rolled out the most boldly anti-environment agenda in modern American history. Recently this has included taking steps to allow a foreign company to mine for copper just upstream of Minnesota’s beloved Boundary Waters wilderness.
