2025 Movie Thread starts here.

1. EMILIA PÉREZ (2024). I cannot believe this is an Oscar nominated film, let alone front runner.

Just didn’t work … at all. Bizarre.

One of the few times we went to my extremely Catholic’s grandparents’ house for Thanksgiving, we’re seated for dinner and my grandfather starts doing the sign of the cross:
“Father, son, holy-“
Soon-to-be ex-uncle (presumably very high): “HOLY MOLY!”

We carved the turkey with the eye daggers
yes, hello, I would like to place an order for everyone’s funniest stories of holiday food-related family grudges / drama / chaotic incidents / lore

I feel like we need this

Might as well say stealing from Apollo will bring ruin to the crops. These people aren’t serious.
Anti-solar NIMBYs aren't beating the accusations of being pretty dim bulbs. "Extracting from the sky" is a good one

The good thing about these is you won’t have to worry about seeing them very much.

someone today said "spirituality itself is an alt-right pipeline," and omfg, i disagree so much.

atheism cannot be the only way to be a leftist. that both ignores long histories of churches, meeting halls & ceremonies as resistance. and it alienates so many amazing people.

no. no. absolutely not.

The Great Khan of the Plains knows ball, but someone gotta ask him where the animated series and Andor rank
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

Violating the First Amendment to hide the record of all their violations of the Fourth Amendment.
An ICE agent was caught removing a sign marking an ICE kidnapping in DC last week! Do we think he did it out of anger, embarrassment, or most appropriately shame? If you think what you’re doing is right, why are you trying to hide the evidence? 👀

One fascinating and yet expected thing is that none of the big foreign accounts pretending to be American are left of center, or even anti-Trump. Not a single one. Says something about the economics and geopolitics of political grifting
If I’m understanding this correctly, X is owned by a white nationalist who pays poor people of color in developing countries to pretend to be working class white Americans to scare other white Americans into being afraid poor people of color from developing countries are going to ruin America?

Forty-two steps from the street

the economic success of the U.S. is significantly built on the land grant universities and in particular their excellent agricultural science tradition.
Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

Notre Dame gets shared ACC opponent Stanford to end the season. Can trees bleed?
This went from "Notre Dame, if you beat Syracuse by more than Miami did (28 points), you can avoid giving the committee a reason to care that Miami beat you" to "ok settle down Notre Dame" immediately
November 22, 2025 at 11:42 PM
I mean, it’s gonna be a pretty boring fight. Vandy has two losses against two top 20 teams and plays in a good conference.

Miami has two losses to two teams best described as “fine” and plays in the ACC.
if you’re not excited to have the Vandy or Miami fight about the playoff well we are not the same

Jesus multiplied fishes and loaves, so there's precedent.
Notre Dame has possessed the ball for 1:28 and somehow has 35 points

I don’t think this is a truly outrageous take, especially if you’re a Small Hall guy.

There are a few guys you can make a case for, but no one I would say anyone could say is a slam dunk.
