Damnable misery of this is that the first Trump administration legitimately oversaw a technological miracle and because he and his party have embraced cranks and scams that miracle must be rejected.

The FDA has refused to accept an application from Moderna to review its first mRNA seasonal flu vaccine, the company said, in another setback for the technology that’s been a target of some Trump administration health officials. https://cnn.it/4kt8iyn

This game is so uncompetitive the booth has moved on to Snoop Dogg talk. You love to see it.

I’ll point out that CAN had a nice run of results at the U18 level of late winning 3/5 golds (this year aside; Jane Daley went nuts), but between 2015-2020 the Americans won 5/6 golds

The avg age of this CAN team is nearly 30. USA is under 26. This game is directly downstream of those U18 results
I'm not surprised by the US-Canada game, just disappointed.

I think it's one of the best examples of how much better USA Hockey is from a developmental standpoint, and it might be awhile before Canada can catch up again.

US Olympic Curling Team member speaks out against ICE:

"I'm proud to represent Team USA. But we'd be remiss if we didn't mention what's going on in Minnesota and what a tough time it's been. What's happening is wrong. There's no shades of gray."

There’s a couple things at play:
- The US has a new golden generation of talent backfilling established stars & Canada is running it back with their vets for one last score. The depth is the issue.
- For a few years now, there is legitimately better development path for girls in the US
A sport having one really dominant team is fine. The much bigger problem is when there are TWO dominant teams, but then the best player on one team gets hurt, and suddenly that team is mid. This is what is happening in women's hockey

This is a famously messy Norwegian biathlete who was banned in 2023 from the Biathlon World Cup because he accidentally fired his competition rifle in his hotel room (he was also teary and apologetic then)
new most bizarre moment of the Olympics just dropped

Norwegian biathlete wins bronze medal, then, totally unprompted, reveal he cheated on his GF, she left him, and he wants to apologize publicly hoping she takes him back

I mean, could he have done worse?
just searched stats for the 2006 U.S. men's olympic team and google AI told me they were coached by herb brooks. sounds fishy to me.

honestly mob bookies handled this more responsibly
"Legalize sports betting to get it out of the hands of criminals" did not require allowing phone apps to advertise about a dozen lopsided mid-game bets you were able to make.

not only were these skaters not disqualified for using AI music, the people in charge of figure skating specifically condoned the use of AI-generated music in the rules

meanwhile they stopped another team from choosing a song released in late 1989 for their "Style of the 1990s" routine

we almost never saw pieces like this when the prevailing epstein accusations were based on totally made up claims from the right. now that the actual evidence in the files implicates trump and other right wing figures, we get 5 articles like this a day.
Last week the far right started peddling a narrative that the outrage over Epstein is a moral panic. Today, like clockwork, a more polite version of that narrative appears in the Atlantic.

wild AI story from the Olympics
ice dancers were told to use songs "in the style of the 1990s." One Czech pair tried using AI to pump out a song to skate to, but their AI bot fully plagiarized "You Get What You Give" by The New Radicals and they had to change it

If you’re wondering “Was Eddie Bauer owned by Private Equity at any point in the recent past?” the answer would be “Yes, by Golden Gate Capital from 2009-2021.” Article below is unrelated I suppose.
The operator of Eddie Bauer, a sportswear company known for selling goose-down coats and other outdoor apparel, filed for bankruptcy on Monday, citing declining sales and supply chain issues.
Eddie Bauer Files for Bankruptcy
The sportswear company’s operator cited a shift in consumer preferences, rising inflation and elevated tariffs. It is the third bankruptcy since Eddie Bauer’s founding in the 1920s.

Son asked if Mike Tyson’s MAHA as meant he was a “sellout like Snoop.”

And I said “No. Think about it. The last time you saw Mike Tyson he was fighting a man half his age for money. You’re not a sellout if you NEED the money.”

This feels like the right parenting move

Again, we get these big pronouncements, these states will sue and the Courts will laugh at the DOJ and the money will be released.

None of that makes for good governance or good policy, but it’s quite something that we’ve already had to do this enough to recognize the pattern.
The Trump administration plans to rescind $600 million in public health funds from four states led by Democrats because it finds the grants “inconsistent with agency priorities,” according to documents reviewed by the NYT

Sorry lady, we go football, music, pretty girls throwing ass and apparently the Olympics in the national divorce.

Oh, we also got Santa.
Megyn Kelly just shouting “FOOTBALL IS OURS” at Piers Morgan about Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl show is the perfect example of this moment in time. Put it in a time capsule and send it out into space.
