A reflection for organizers: you’re doing enough.
![I posted this after last night’s dialogue among organizers about what’s going on in the country.
They seemed to like it and asked to share it. I gave them license to use as they please, with or without attribution.
Maybe it’ll be helpful to someone here.
Just a reflection:
A lot of people here have been responding to crisis for an extended period of time. If your body needs rest, that does not mean you are somehow coming up short. A couple voices tonight normalized intense feelings--and that these can keep us human. They are personally felt but, as folks who came tonight might have observed, these are not personal. These emotions are shared.
I think it's easy to forget we are our own most attentive critic. So if you're feeling like you're not doing enough right now, I wanted to share this excerpt from psychologist Katherine Morgan:
"What clients come to acknowledge is that their desire was never to be perfect; it was only to be loved. To simply be seen, accepted, and embraced without conditions is what the child, who is now an adult, has been obsessed with—not perfection. [...] Your power lies in practicing self-compassion, then taking ownership over your life now."
This is a historic moment. This is historic difficulty. I cannot tell the future, I have no answers, but in the time since starting this circle, I have seen the ongoing efforts of everyday people coming together to give a fuck.
I think caring about each other in such violent times is itself a form of resistance. It also keeps us whole and human.

Continuous practice is not separate from faith in practice. We are not just sitting on our meditation cushion like so much old laundry. We have to have faith that the dharma will restore sanity and goodness, seeing that our whole life, can be a medium for practice, not just the time in the zendo.

This is an excellent thread by a writer/activist/thinker I respect very much. Recommended.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

I have been actively involved in protest movements for 24 years. I have never seen anything approaching this scale. Minneapolis is not accepting what's happening here. ICE fucking murdered a woman for participating in this, and all that did is bring out more people, from more walks of life.

Just got a call from my daughter’s school here in north Hollywood that ICE has been seen near the campus. Heading over there now, hoping that’s not the case. But word is they’ve been all around NoHo and Burbank today so everyone stay safe and watch out for your neighbors.
