this post made me check, and yup — northern waters in duluth is on the strike list (as i knew they would be.) solidarity forever.
This is my city--my STATE--look, there's the place we always go in Duluth, there's that place where we had breakfast in Grand Marais--and we are in this TOGETHER. Oh, my Minnesota, I love you.

If ICE agents can abduct citizens carrying US passports on their person, imagine what they'll do when checking IDs at your local polling place this November. The voter suppression deployment will be unprecedented.

National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

Looks like Senator Blumenthal's office worked with the whistleblowers, and has already put out a letter to the Trump admin demanding answers.

Congress MUST act. This is a five alarm fire for our basic rights under the law. bsky.app/profile/blum...
I’m demanding Sec. Noem provide an explanation for this abhorrent policy & that my Republican colleagues hold hearings & join me in demanding the Trump Admin answer for this lawlessness. 6

I'm reminded of how the Russian Imperial government reacted to false rumors that they had orchestrated a massive pogrom in Moldova in 1903 by going "Wow, what if we actually *did* provide support and political cover to pogromists next time" and then doing that within ten years of the original event.
Man it’s weird how this year has already made two lefty fantasy tropes of recent history actually real

Our main armed conflict really is an imperial conquest for oil that’s genuinely unpopular, and the quasi-army men killing people in the streets is also actually unpopular
This 57% negative view of ICE is almost exact inversion of a 1970 Gallup poll: 58% blamed the students for the killlings at Kent State. Only 11% blamed the National Guard (and 31% had “no opinion”). The world is dfferent yes, but we start from a new place.www.kentguardvoices1970.com/the-shooting...

before I go to bed, I feel obliged to emphasize how tonight’s rampage in northern Minneapolis was, by no exaggeration, a glorified episode of klan night riding by federally deputized groypers. Yes, DHS always had these people but the difference now is that they’re in charge and with a $175B budget.

Listen I think in Hollywood more people need to take risks on original scripts and ideas, get more directors making more work from more writers, and stop relying so much on IP.

Except for the Rocketeer. If you need a script for a sequel, Disney? Call me. I have like eight.

In the language of a foreign affairs correspondent reporting on a faltering democracy: an opposition stronghold has been occupied and its people are being terrorized by the regime.

it's really important for me to point out that this is actually a target in st. paul.
I added captions to this video of people heckling Greg Bovino leaving a Target in Minneapolis, and there's so many people yelling things at him it's like a comedy skit

The thing about the Boston Massacre— the fruits of arbitrary power— was not that the colonists were universally in the right. Things were thrown at the soldiers. But, the presence of a standing army escalated conditions. The use of force that night was not proportional. Citizens died needlessly.

This could be my old geography major bias talking, but I think this might be one of the biggest underrated structural factors in explaining US politics.
America's not particularly vulnerable to a single, concentrated uprising in its capital for the same reason it's more resistant than those countries are to going across the board fascist.
yeah and that's mostly just cuz we're one of those countries w/ a capital that's like, mostly just the capital and not also the biggest city in the country, like I think Tehran is (and like Paris is, and some other capitals in other countries)

like there were massive protests in LA last year
