Yes! Thank you for this! I was a girl, and then a young woman, and then after a while, "woman" just didn't feel right. And "man" didn't feel right either. And I refused to cram myself into either box. So, ten years ago I came out as trans & non-binary. (Yep, I'm one of the dreaded "they/thems".) 1/6
Not everyone is born trans; for some people, being trans is an expressive, deeply personal choice. Being trans is like being Jewish. Whether or not you're born that way or choose to become that way, it's a basic sacred freedom and human right.
Having regrets about being born trans is about as useful as having regrets about being born with red hair. You can dye your hair black, but you will always still be a redhead. And you can “detrans,” but you will always still be trans. We are born this way.

I think there's a decent chance that the Pope visits Chicago during this presidency and while there asks to see Broadview and I wonder how that plays out.

Please understand that "reward people for being healthy", in health insurance, also translates to "punish people for being disabled."

The people who are most vulnerable, most in need, will be asked to bear higher costs, in many cases, pricing them out of accessing health care, into early graves.
Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."

Apparently P*ypal now asks for customer opinions on accounts sending invoices.
If you are paying an invoice to a nsfw artist, do NOT mention NSFW in any way, keep it blank even. you risk both your account and the artists.

They're so fucking stupid and don't realize it. The only reason many white students can afford graduate degrees is because foreign students pay for the programs and allow them to be economically efficient. Without foreign students, many programs will now simply collapse. Genius.
The White House just blasted this out under the headline "Good News You May Have Missed"

One clear example of how the rich write our laws:

Thanks to this year’s Congress, the first $15,000,000 a kid inherits doesn’t get taxed at all.

If you actually work for your money, taxes start at $14,601.

The rich gutted our silver spoon laws, just because they can.

given that SCOTUS has ruled that "looking hispanic and being employed in a manual labor job" is sufficient cause to demand papers & arrest people (even those who have documents!), it feels more than fair for city cops to use "employed by ICE" as probable cause that someone's been committing felonies
An ICE employee was among 16 men arrested after trying to solicit a minor for sex in Bloomington, Minnesota, police say

"When he was arrested, he said, 'I'm ICE, boys,'" Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said during a press conference. "Well, unfortunately for him, we locked him up."

There’s a very surreal conversation I keep having on here where people seem unable to hold two ideas at the same time, and I’m not sure why. It’s simply true that the Big AI platforms like ChatGPT are:
1. Extremely bad for society, in many ways.
2. Very genuinely popular with lots of people.

Shameless plug:

For a year, I've been working on a series about the vast systems that underlie life in most of the world. Built up over generations, these systems are the cathedrals of our time--but all too few of us know anything about them, and they're all at risk of failing. Here's the latest:

I cannot express how important it is for anyone going through a secured checkpoint like TSA to make sure thier phone is in BFU (Before First Unlock) mode. To enter this state: reboot your phone and don't unlock it.

In BFU mode all data is encrypted and your phone requires a passcode to unlock.
I was just asked for my phone (to swipe the outside for whatever) for the 1st time during a “random” TSA extra screening for a domestic flight - i told them i didn’t consent to a search of the phone, made sure there were no notifications visible & it was locked and didn’t let it out of my sight…
