Imagine you could ask some dude to hop in his big, gas-guzzling car, drive over to your house any time, and do your work for you.

But what if I told you that when the dude left your house, he was going down the block to visit a troubled teenager in order to help them commit suicide? (Gift link)
Perry: How can AI be used ethically when it’s been linked to suicide?
"It’s not on us, on you and me, to use AI ethically or responsibly. It’s on the companies to build safe, reliable, ethical products," David M. Perry writes.

I want that dude to hear a ghostly "'sup, fucker?" every time he's about to fall asleep for the rest of his life.

Can I bring an age (and sex, come to think) discrimination case against the province or city (whichever has authority) for having a minimum temperature for heat but not a maximum temperature for A/C for landlords?

I should not be held responsible for my actions under these conditions.

And just like that, all my questions have evaporated.

Maybe they'll come back soon.
Humans of Bluesky! I want your questions, please.

Let me explain.

I like writing explainers about things like: What colors do bees see? Do bugs fart? How long can viruses survive in a dead body? What's the difference between hemp and marijuana?

But my brain is wrung dry. I need questions! 🧪🧵

When ours was wee, she had a bright red hoodie with round ears. Husband called her Bear-Devil. I was mostly too mad I didn't think of it first to join in.
🚨 ALERT 🚨 It is now officially babies in tiny jackets with ears on the hoods season. Please be on the lookout for babies in tiny jackets with ears on the hoods at all times.

Companies, families; potayto, potahto
"Research has shown that, inside some companies, workers begin to see their colleagues who use generative AI as less creative, even less trustworthy."
Hi. I wrote an essay about AI slop: How it feels like an invasive species for the internet. How its boosters describe building a future that’s devoid of craft. How frictionlessness can be nihilistic & how this stuff seems to leach part of our shared humanity out of the world. I hope you'll read it.

Dear Silicon Valley:

The only time I wish a computer could think on my behalf in response to my spoken request is unexpected detours.

Until I can frantically shout "Oh shit, the road's closed" and Maps will generate a valid alternate route on the fly, I want no part of your fancy autocorrect.

My poor fragile tummy couldn't handle whey protein.

It's been awhile since I lifted, but I am glad that I discovered that plain tuna is heavenly immediately after a workout. And that I live in an era of tuna in pouches.

But now someone is going to tell me why pouches of tuna are just as bad.
my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

Daughter finally got me to sit still long enough to watch K-Pop demon hunters.

So now my amazing stupid brain is giving me a constant loop of:

Every time I wake up
In my stupid makeup
It's too early
For that fucking dress.

Explain your username:

Jewish convert. The info class teacher had a book with a chapter of Hebrew names and their meanings. It listed Devorah as "to speak kind words or, swarm of bees" and I've never made a decision so fast.

Never seen that def since. Someone knew what I needed to see, I guess?
explain your username:

short version: it’s my author pen name

long version: I was going by the initials “CM” on a message board for writers, because it stood for “Chicken Mafia.” People knew me as CM and then suddenly I needed a real name for human interaction purposes.
explain your username:

I started going by “Miss Kitty Fantastico” online when I started watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer as a teenager, but that was often too longer for a username on a lot of sites, so I shortened it to “misskittyf.” It’s stuck for nearly 20 years now.

I have fond memories of Cleolinda (iirc?) on LJ's "Twilight means never having to say you're kidding."

I think it might be safe to extend the sentiment to the Midnight Society.
Jennifer Armentraut: Submitted for the approval of the midnight society, i call this the tale of the scone of stone and bone
King: what's that smell?
Armentraut: oh you mean that garlic smell?
Armentraut: that patented Hellmans original mouth-watering garlic aioli smell?
King:
King: yeah that smell

Temple means shrine. It's also the upper part of the face.

(My friend group misremembered it as "Shrine means temple" and I'm a little sad it wasn't that.)
CHOTINER: So these “rebels,” you’re a member? Despite being from House Beoulve?

RAMZA: Yea, prithee their desperate cries have awoken a burning passion within me.

CHOTINER: It says here you think Cardinal Delacroix will support you?

RAMZA: …we are negotiating, forsooth.

Someday I will send in our pledge in the early summer instead of a week and change before the HHD, but it will not be this year.

I did put it in Finch this year, where it taunted me daily for 3 months. That's progress, right?

Ooh, age-appropriate info!

PJ Library sent kid "Brave Girl" by Michelle Markel and Melissa Sweet recently (for extremely ADHD values of "recently") and it became one of THE bedtime books for a couple months near the end of the school year.

Mia arrived less than a week before my surgery. Now she's giving all of us squeezy eyes just closing the left eye and it is the cutest damn thing.

I am not looking forward to her stopping this practice when my eye is fully healed.

Surgery on my left eye on Tuesday. Recovery not completely terrible, just...

You know what's really hard to do one-eyed?

Getting the toothpaste actually on the brush.
