Today's early Spring semester reminder that if your academic library doesn't have an eBook you want and/or tells you they can't provide it, it is most likely not the library staff's fault.

We can't buy what vendors refuse to sell.

If you’re looking to ground yourself in a topic with fact-based research, librarians are still your best friends.

Let me tell you a story. Perhaps you can guess where this is going... though it does have a bit of a twist.

I was poking around Google Scholar for publications about the relationship between chatbots and wellness. Oh how useful: a systematic literature review! Let's dig into the findings. 🧵

Happy Birthday to the legendary Billy Connolly who turns 83 today, and who from a young age realised the importance of #Libraries.

'When I was an unhappy little boy, going to the library changed my life. It may even have saved it.'

Happy Birthday Big Yin. 🎉🎂🌟❤️

Over 50,000 cis women have signed the @nionwomen.bsky.social open letter rejecting the narrative that trans women are a danger to women.

The real threat to women has never been trans women. The real threat to women is male violence.

This, from the Quakers, is worth reading. It's a serene, confident, utter rebuke of the hate and fear that's peddled by Sex Matters. The last two pages are smokin'. If you're on the wrong side of the Quakers, you really need to sit down and have a good chat with yourself.
This, from the Quakers, is a pretty good example of how to resist pressure from bigot lobbying groups. Effectively “we legally can allow trans people to use the loo, we morally should, and we tried it and nothing bad happened”

Almost every woman you know has been sexually harassed by a cis man. Many of us have been sexually assaulted, physically assaulted, and far too many women have been killed by men

It’s not trans women who pose a threat to us. It’s the misogyny that polices all women. Start there or shut up

Why I keep yelling about LIS workers eagerly jumping into AI. AI can't do our jobs, but it can replace us. The work won't get done well, patrons won't be satisfied, and it will eventually tank the whole library, but don't think that won't stop admin from trying to save a few bucks out of your wages.

Holy shit, just saw Alan Cumming’s monologue standing in for Jim’ll Kimmel “why on earth would a rapist go to the bother of pretending to be trans in a country that actually treats rapists better than trans people?” It’s a point we’ve made a lot but to put that out on network TV is a new level.
