“How many incidents does it take to get to the center of a sociotechnical system?"

One more comment on the Post debacle: this hurts journalism broadly. Good journalists will go do something else. The rest will be fighting for fewer jobs and everyone will earn less. Fewer people will take up the career. The damage done is to the ecosystem, as well as the paper.

One of my favorite features of [redacted]'s dashboards is having to remember to click "Run" when I load it.

I don't know about YOU, but when I load a dashboard, I so don't care about the up-to-date, real-world state of the data on my dashboards.

The Montreal Canadiens are playing the Minnesota Wild in Minneapolis tonight. The players have been recommended to stay in/eat at the hotel, take the team bus to the arena, and carry passports.

Perhaps we shouldn't be hosting the World Cup and the Olympics...

X: You talk about planes a lot, Paul; what’s your take on this whole Canadian plane “decertification” thing?

Me: I am very confident Canada can figure out how to decertify Boeings.

ah well at least we restructured the entire contemporary university, the product of many centuries of slowly accumulating human ingenuity, to boost this
“One notable MIT study found that 95 percent of companies that integrated AI saw zero meaningful growth in revenue. For coding tasks, one of AI’s most widely hyped applications, another study showed that programmers who used AI coding tools actually became slower at their jobs.”
AI Completely Failing to Boost Productivity, Says Top Analyst
AI may or may not excel at a lot of things, but from an economic standpoint, it's definitely not making us more productive.

If they start talking about their feelings? Out loud? Shit is dire
Check in on your MN friends. Ask how they're doing. If they say:

"Pretty good, you?" They're probably ok.

"Just fine, howryou?" They're struggling, exhausted, hanging on but close to the edge.

"Oh, doin ok" Send help. The situation is desperate.

This was an unmistakable, heavily repeated theme in Isaacson's biography of Musk: recounting stories of PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX, Musk would frame his arguments as "We need to do [what I say] or we'll die. It's all over."

It's so intellectually anemic, and yet... that apparently doesn't matter.
One of the more surreal patterns in Trump's insane claims is that he loves insisting some catastrophic outcome will occur unless we immediately do X, without explaining why nothing bad happened for 250 years when we weren't doing X.
Trump: "If we don't take Greenland, you're gonna have Russia or China as your next door neighbor. That's not going to happen."
