this is fundamentally the bush administration just a little more racist and brutal domestically. this is the realization of their unitary executive dream

Love to have a surprise treat at the end of a real What A Week
it should not surprise anybody who follows my work that I wrote a bunch more songs last year. (Peter Balkan was written in 2024.) Here's one we're releasing early in honor of Bob Weir. Enjoy -- we're donating proceeds to the American Cancer Society. themountaingoats.bandcamp.com/track/going-...

Yeah, actually, I think I remember reading an article just yesterday about Dan being the voice for people who have things to say.

Wonder if that’s what he meant?
Dan Ryan kind of praised Councilor Koyama Lane by while saying he leads like her and approaches interpersonal relationships like her. He's praising himself mostly. He said, "I have to be a voice of those who are silenced by this council, at times, and those are a lot of voices."

The Mercury has obtained a series of images of group messages that show racist, sexist, and homophobic tropes used by a local developer and other local conservative political activists during a council president election. Readers may find this content offensive.

On my way to the Supreme Court where I'll be proud to support 15-year-old Becky Pepper-Jackson, West Virginia's only transgender athlete, as she opposes the state's effort to ban her from playing as herself.

Win or lose, Becky and her family are heroes for standing up for what's right

By the way this press release you’d think the LASD deputy got attacked by a barista. Instead, it’s about someone allegedly drawing a pig on the deputy’s cup.

This is stunning. Listen to this in Philadelphia.

Thousands singing “Hey-Oh, we won’t be silent while our friends are gunned down.”

Really listen to it.

Holding stories like this is a longstanding practice and also completely antithetical to the entire purpose of journalism. RIP Gawker.
🟡 NEW: The New York Times and Washington Post learned of a secret US raid on Venezuela soon before it was scheduled to begin Friday night — but held off publishing what they knew to avoid endangering US troops.

Please no one talk to me about expanding “the big tent” ever again. I need a party that believes in *something* other than the professional self interest of politicians

you don't need to add caveats agreeing that the head of state abducted is a bad guy before opposing abduction of a head of state by military force. If the rule was any head of government is fair game then the entire world would be a series of decapitation strikes and show trials in foreign courts.

watching a lot of people both nationally and locally who have spent many many years building up name recognition and trust light their reputations and legacies on fire recently has been wild. it’s already real embarrassing for them and going to get worse
The way the press is treating chatbots, like they have agency and they “know” things all of a sudden, crossed the line recently from dumb and obsequious to something else entirely. Treating them as alive and making conscious decisions is an almost religious belief. It won’t age well.
