Are these NBC commentators the C-team? During the Summer Olympics, we learned who each of the torch bearers were, their significance to the moment, the context behind the artistic performances, etc. These guys in Milan are giving us nothing!

Yeah you lost me at "three-time Trump voter"
Three-time Trump voter: I'm looking at this awful picture of the Obamas. What an embarrassment to our country. He is not worthy of the presidency. He takes bribes blatantly, and now he's being a racist blatantly. He's pathetic as a president, and I want to apologize for supporting this rotten man.

Watch this, it's astonishing.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

We still don't know the names of the ICE agents who killed Gonzàlez behind the wheel of his car outside Chicago in September.

They were unmasked in this BWC footage from Franklin Park police.

“Bannon can talk. Others can try to act on that talk. What they can’t do is make fear scale cleanly in the face of organized, visible, collective pushback.”

Good thread:
🧵 Kate is right about how Bannon’s rhetoric is meant to intimidate and depress participation. But I’ll add a fourth level/pillar to her thread: visible, real-world community response. Minneapolis shows how observers, neighbors, and organized pushback blunt fear by refusing silence. (1/9)
ICE at the polls! Bannon is basically yelling “fire” in a crowded theater here. His objective is to cause chaos (and suppress votes on the left). And it’s already working.

This threat works on multiple levels and doesn’t have to be “real” to serve its purpose.

Let me explain & offer some advice.

It's something.
NEW: Abigail Spanberger this afternoon ordered that all state agencies leave ICE's 287(g) program.

This means that the state police (and some other agencies) will no longer be empowered to detain and arrest people for ICE.

Big, big move by the governor within weeks of coming into office.

Abigail Spanberger left the 287(g) program, which empowered state law enforcement to detain immigrants. Will Democrats also bar local police and sheriffs from the program?

74% of Democrats support abolishing ICE, with 53% *strongly* supporting it, according to YouGov polling from last month.

Weak calls for "reform" are coming from *elected* Democrats like Chuck, not the average Democratic voter.
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:

End the roving patrols and racial profiling.

Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.

Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

They have outlived their usefulness.
By not doing so, they let Trump frame this as him vs. "dishonest CNN." If the next reporter had just asked the same question in a different form, it would be clear Trump was evading the question and not just reacting to one reporter.

But folks in the WHCA value access over truth.
