Catherine O’Hara… she was great. I always liked her attitude. I hadn’t seen this in years and a fan shared it with me. May her memory be a blessing.

You know the saying that some actors have the ability to disappear into their roles?
Jerry Goldsmith (1929-2004) had the ability to disappear into his scores. Every film score he wrote was completely different than his last. And nearly all were brilliant.

We can support women in film better.

I’m developing a feature film. A psychological thriller that shines light on chronic and invisible illness and also mental health. While entertaining with a murder mystery.

Make a contribution. Support indie film. #filmsky

If I may add to @dean.bsky.social's excellent thread on Leontyne Price: This shows her in the sensational Act II of "Tosca," broadcast on NBC in 1955—Price's dazzling introduction to a worldwide audience. She sang it in English, and her Cavaradossi was David Poleri.

Nothing succeeds like excess:

You may not be conversant with the full majesty of birthday girl Carmen Miranda. Her film biography was entitled “Bananas is my business” and here, deliriously, is why.
The first 40 secs are “Excuse me?” Then increasing derangement begins.

Since he's acting like we're all in his living room, I asked if he had any spinach dip.

Well, it seems that our daughter Morgan is now a poster girl for Boston Conservatory's Musical Theater audition tour.
Alas, no royalties are being sent for this one.

My internet is down (thanks, Old Man Winter), so for John Williams' birthday (Feb 8), I'll be reposting some of my earlier threads about the great film composer.
#filmsky #moviesky #filmscores
John Williams, #BOTD in 1932, is a master at borrowing music phrases and themes from other composers and forging them into his own creations for his scores. One example of this alchemy is his score for E.T. (1982).
Williams turned to American composer Howard Hanson.

I'm asked what my favorite John Williams score is.
I don't have a favorite, but for me, the opening titles of SUPERMAN (1978) is always a thrill.
For five full minutes, the music is front and center. It's truly a full-fledged overture. Which we rarely hear anymore these days.

Happy birthday to John Williams, BOTD in 1932.
His music has been part of the soundtrack of my life - as it has for countless others - since the 1960s.
I could write a book about it, but, lucky for us, @tgreiving.bsky.social already has.
One of the most compelling bios you'll ever read.

This week should be easy-peasy, especially the first 2 or 3 music clips. Get those, and you'll get the theme immediately!
Maybe even 4 and 5 will come to you after that.
