Each Veterans Day, I always listen to Maurice Ravel's "Le Tombeau de Couperin" which he wrote in memory of his friends who lost their lives serving in WWI.
Currently playing on WQXR in NYC, this recording by Leonard Slatkin and the National Orchestra of Lyon.

Danelectros are very fine instruments. I always wanted one, but ended up with a fake Hofner violin bass instead...

Carl Stalling made early use of - and helped refine - what was to become the "click-track" method of synchronizing the music track with the film. This was important in the first of the Disney "Silly Symphonies" cartoons: "Skeleton Dance" which was scored by Stalling.

Carl Stalling, BOTD in 1891 (d. 1972).
One of the most innovative and influential film composers that most people have never heard of - because most of his music was written for the cartoon shorts of Walt Disney and Warner Brothers from the 1920s to 1950s.

In 2012, a Variety poll of 40 top current film composers voted Ennio Morricone’s THE MISSION (1986) as the greatest film score of all time.
It truly IS a great score, and his cue “Gabriel’s Oboe” has become one of the most popular pieces he ever wrote.
Here he conducts it in 2004:

His scores for Spaghetti Westerns are just a small part of Ennio Morricone’s large body of film music work.
Comedy was a genre in which he worked consistently, from 1962’s CRAZY DESIRE, to LA CAGE AUX FOLLES (1978) and BULWORTH (1998)

Over the course of his long career, Ennio Morricone worked with some of the most well-known directors in Hollywood and beyond.
But his most famous collaboration was with Sergio Leone. Starting with 1964’s A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS, Morricone would score all of Leone’s movies.

Incredible as it may seem, today is the birthday of TWO men who each invented a musical instrument that was named after them by adding "phone" to the end of their name.
John Philip Sousa (1854-1932): the Sousaphone
Adolphe Sax (1814-1894): the Saxophone

Zohran Mamdani now has over one million votes in the NYC Mayoral elections.

These mayors never cracked the million mark:
Adams
de Blasio
Bloomberg
Giuliani
Dinkins
Koch

You need to go back to 1969 and John Lindsay for the last time any NYC mayor got 1 million+ votes
