Professional geek. Very amateur musician.
Ironically the cranky tone of this piece is perfectly in keeping with a supposed age of 86.

(I am childishly pleased to have been identified as in my 30s not my 50s but would no doubt join in the humbugging if it had been otherwise)

I spent hours listening to Sabrina Carpenter this year. So why do I have a Spotify ‘listening age’ of 86?
Many users of the app were shocked, this week, by this addition to the Spotify Wrapped roundup – especially twentysomethings who were judged to be 100

I know nothing about Dr Who, but, for Londoners, the phrase "Going For Dinner With Billie Piper" is the absolute best way to remember the order of the vertical streets running east to west in Soho (Greek, Frith, Dean, Wardour, Berwick, Poland) and has saved many a late night out

This insane person is deep in megalomania to point of questioning the Nuremberg trials. A deep resentment of paying taxes and being subject to rule of law.

This is who the government wants in charge of our health care data, embedded into our governance.

I don’t know about you, but I’m still sort of processing that the US president stood up in the UN and declared that London is about to be under Sharia law, and the response has been “actually, that won’t happen” rather than “Jesus, that is insane.”

Can’t get more Simon Jenkins in @theguardian.com than admiring the aesthetics of Donald Trump. Gold encrusted Oval Office (and toilet seats), oversized tie, blatantly fake tan, heavily plastic-surgeoned female entourage, taste in underage girls, and McDonalds diet: a true eye for natural beauty.

Etymology of the day: spiders were once known as ‘attercops’, or ‘poison-heads’, because it was believed most spiders were venomous. The ‘cop’ element became the ‘cob’ in ‘cobweb’.

@aiannucci.bsky.social introduces us to the word “fissiparous”.

Could Trump, Musk, Farage, Badenoch all be said to be indulging in one huge, elongated “fissi fit”?

Important thread on language! How we instinctively do understand types and degrees of behaviour.

Off the cuff theory: politics is learning that you have to vote for prats and pricks, while hard right/left politics is supporting twats and cunts by denying any “mistakes” were ever deliberate.
The prat slips on a banana skin he should have noticed.
The prick carelessly dicarded the banana skin.
The twat deliberately put the banana skin in a dangerous place.
The cunt is a twat did it hoping for a serious injury.

Have just arrived in Glasgow on Avanti West Coast. Smooth journey.

But not in the station, no, we’re currently parked over the Clyde and “delayed”. It’s like they don’t want to arrive on time on principle.
Every single fucking time someone's coming to see me on an Avanti West Coast train I get this slight ambient nausea, not knowing how serious the balls-up's going to be this time. Today my visitor is currently stuck at Crewe, "collapsed line" ETA shrug emoji. Avanti, Italian for "fuck off!"
