This was a hard-fought contract, and for the first time in recent history, we now have an actual system for annual raises at the Daily News.

A monumental win with this ratification vote.

(And Kerry is the best street reporter around, brotha.)
May the history of the Daily News, when it is written, reflect that upon unanimous ratification of the first contract in more than three decades, the next words uttered in the Zoom call were those of street reporter Kerry Burke: “Okay, I got a homicide. I gotta go.”

BREAKING -- A judge has sharply reduced the sentence of Nechemya Weberman, 68, a prominent figure in the ultra-Orthodox Satmar community in Brooklyn, who sentenced to 103 years in '13.

New sentence is 18 years -- he's already served 13.

The hearing was fraught. Full story coming soon.

I hate to be that guy, but the NY Daily News broke this story more than four hours before this Times piece sauntered along to get everyone’s eyeballs.

Here’s a gift link.

New from the EDNY beat:

Joseph Corozzo Jr., lawyer for boxer Goran Gogic, says he shouldn’t be spiked from the pugilist’s drug trafficking case for “baseless” jury and witness tampering allegations — saying the feds have been trying to get him since the '90s.

BRANIAC: I’ve renounced evil, Superman, and built this floating city in the desert where I give people a prosperous, care-free life. See how happy they are, Superman.

SUPERMAN: What’s behind the lead door?

BRAINIAC: That’s where I keep all my evil plans, I mean snacks for the people. Oh no.
Obviously this is a setback but I think it's important not to let it discredit the concept of building a long, extremely narrow glass city in the middle of the desert. www.ft.com/content/036b...

Worth noting that one reason you’re benefitting so fully from the Star-Tribune’s timely, extensive coverage of unfolding events is that it’s a metro newspaper that hasn’t been systematically starved to further enrich shareholders and executives.

When you get a bunch of NYC reporters together, it’s usually for a going-away party. This time, it’s for three — a triple loss for the @nydailynews.com and @nydnunion.bsky.social.

Farewell to @grahamrayman.bsky.social, @c-sommerfeldt.bsky.social and Vinny Panzarino.

Giants all.
