The two are accused of taking bribes to throw balls in the dirt or throwing balls instead of strikes, coordinating with gamblers.

From the indictment:

Ortiz got $5K for one pitch in June, and Clase got $5K as the go-between, and when Clase set up a 90,000 pesos transfer to Ortiz in the Dominican Republic, he told Ortiz, "They're going to ask him what is that payment for over there. Tell him that this is payment for a horse."
