When I was new at the Trib, Ron Grossman called in a tip on a weekend. I didn’t know who he was, and he could tell. I could name Trib columnists who would have blown up at a kid who didn’t know who they were. But Ron has humility, so he was cool about it. We don’t always agree, but he’s a good man.
Goodbye to Ron, a walking archive of local history and a mensch.

Prosecutors took that stance despite the fact that the witnesses in his case all recanted. Jackson applied and was rejected twice by the Cook County Conviction Integrity Unit before he learned the group included the wife of the cop who built case, Brian Forberg.
