You know what, I think I'll just go ahead and pass on talking to him, then.

Just noting that Mayor Daley's lawyers have periodically argued for more than a decade that his health is too poor for him to sit for depositions in matters including Jon Burge's torture ring.

Went to a screening of "Halloween" last night and chuckled when I was reminded the top-billed star was Donald Pleasance, whose performances I love. The man led an interesting life.

You might be surprised to realize how fraught and challenging the idea of a police deployment study is in a city where tradition dictates these things work more informally, according to political needs and influences.

I really enjoyed "The Gales of November" and maybe the most remarkable fact in it is that the recorded version of Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" was not just the first take in the studio, but the first time the band ever played the song.

If you want to take the Chicago FOP's temperature after the weekend, the union president wrote an angry letter alleging cops were told to stand down instead of helping federal authorities after they shot someone, which CPD denies.

The union did not weigh in on federal agents gassing their members.

One thing to bear in mind here is that the union that represents the wide majority of Chicago police earlier this year dedicated the cover and a good chunk of the inside of its magazine for members to praising Tom Homan and ICE.

Dozens of people have made similar allegations of coercion against former Det. Brian Forberg & his partners. The mom of one imprisoned man told me prosecutors and judges should take that seriously.

Had a nice laugh at this 81-year-old birder/gift shop worker at Walden Pond talking to a reporter like, yeah, well, Richard's leaving but they're just going to get another Thoreau impersonator.

Context for the potential upcoming debate on whether the city should settle these lawsuits: Chicago's top lawyer is quite sure the taxpayers would be out a ton of money in a protracted case-by-case fight, because the evidence is thick and the cops pled guilty.

This week's @injusticewatch.org newsletter had my recommendation for the tremendous new @pile.bsky.social album, and lots of other worthwhile stuff.

The union that represents the very wide majority of Chicago police officers here with the puzzling assertion that crime is down but "the murderous mindset" is not.

At the Art Institute, I learned that Gustave Caillebotte had a brother named Martial, who had a little dog named Paul. Respect to Paul.

Disappoints me that more people don't discuss Geoff Tate from Queensryche because he's a fun person to think about. Has a wine brand called "Insania." Led a band that made a rock opera concept album called "Operation: Mindcrime." Sang "Silent Lucidity," which is a truly excellent song. What gives?

AI is expanding the boundaries of our imaginations, allowing us to live out such thrilling fantasies as, “What if Hulk Hogan were friends with Larry McCarren?”

Aside from a few issues -- July 29 was a Tuesday and is not upcoming, July 28 also already happened, they didn't play the Mets that day, and the final two sentences don't make sense after the first two -- the Google AI overview I wasn't trying to use did a good job fielding this basic query.

Tom Lehrer would surely see the humor in the fact that one of the authors of his obituary is also dead.
