The question everyone is asking right now is this: NYT had deep access into all of this in real time and reported none of it. Why? In consequence, no NYT reporting on this subject is trustworthy.

I know it's trivial compared to the Trump Regime's myriad assaults on human rights, but this is valuable information to learn and use for persuasion.
I can't tell you how many interviews I've done where I've been asked: If Trump's policies are so problematic, why are U.S. stocks rising so rapidly.

A bit of international context illustrates the real issue here.

U.S. stocks have dramatically underperformed other advanced economies.

One thing that’s become very clear is that corporations understand the Trump administration’s willingness to vindictively punish noncompliance, and view capitulation as pure upside. Which means consumers need to be very, very aggressive about punishing compliance to balance that.

All of the pilfering, vandalism, and outright death caused by DOGE cuts, and all of the thefts from the future by illegally stopping research grants, didn't save a penny, Trump spent the money and more on corruption and incompetent ICE goons.
Total federal spending is up +7% in 2025 over 2024 year-to-date to Oct 20.

The story that the fed govt is tightening its belt is contradicted by its own real-time expenditure data. Admin spectacularly hammering some things but raising spending elsewhere.

Was -7% just after Inauguration Day.

Trump’s immigration crackdown in Chicago, dubbed “Operation Midway Blitz,” has prompted an unorthodox form of high-pitched protest: whistles

Organizers have been sending out tiny plastic alarm systems by the 1000's to residents who want to alert others when immigration agents are in the vicinity

It’s a sign of how lost the liberal establishment is that its primary solution to egregious, ineffective, illegal government repression is to require ICE use more surveillance technology while it keeps doing what it does.

Gotta say, it takes an *amazing* lack of shame for Louisiana to show up to the Supreme Court to make the exact OPPOSITE argument than they made last year in the same case.

I couldn't do it. But I have, you know, intellectual integrity.

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.

Lots of ways to understand the contemporary moment but one is the role of owners of immobile assets - oil, gas, coal and land- who want to ensure they can continue to extract rents (and pollute) and who prefer an authoritarian set up to do so. Their threat perception rises with every new eco tech

Stop calling it deporting, so MAYBE more Americans will get it. "Deporting" is sending someone back, after due process, to the country they came from, where they arrive a free person. This is human trafficking to a foreign torture prison for the rest of their lives. GET THE LANGUAGE RIGHT.
