I saw a documentary last week about four women from Southeast Asia who flee the horrors of war and settle in the US. One woman described the transition from Cambodia to Minnesota with a line that absolutely destroyed the audience.

“I survived the killing fields. I can survive this winter.”

Music is basically a detective novel where the musicians are the suspects/criminals, the listener is the detective and of course the music is the crime. The listener tries to determine what happened and what was the motivation, while the musicians try to obscure this, so they can get away with it.

We're going to have to do an episode of @pastduepodcast.com about this. IF YOU ARE AN ARTIST OF MUSICIAN, please let me know.
Not me, but a local musician friend. I know a lot of musicians, and it’s not at all uncommon for them to just do without insurance and hope for the best. My employer based insurance is something like $110/month (very fortunate). If I had to pay this much, I’d have to do without too.

I don't know how y'all die-hard sports fans do it. My capacity for fandom is limited by my capacity for heartbreak.

I've only really ever been a fan of one team in any sport and it was a real delight to have my fandom re-actived this year. Thanks, Mariners.

My followers on other platforms seemed mostly bewildered by this question. It looks like the 620 in St Paul tonight?
Any place in MSP where transplanted Washingtonians are gathering to watch their beloved Mariners during the playoffs?

Japan has a wrestling camp for kids where at the end they have a show match in front of their parents to show off what they learned.

Thought you'd enjoy this.

For the next 97 days, I will post one thing per day about the late, great Tom Lehrer — one for each year of his life — unless I forget and skip a day.

Day 1: he found a rhyme for 🍊!

They waited *more than an hour* to enter the Hortman home after watching Mark Hortman get shot in the doorway

Unbelievably tragic & heartbreaking

And, of course, they publicly congratulated themselves on a great, lifesaving police response when they’d let a lawmaker bleed out. Uvalde is everywhere
New details about police activity after lawmaker shootings raise questions about response
The Minnesota Star Tribune found that Brooklyn Park police waited more than 60 minutes to enter the Hortman home and that several law enforcement agencies were unaware of the situation for hours.

This broke me from the first paragraph

"For Melissa Hortman’s last day at work, they draped her coffin with pink flowers and filled the cold marble under the Minnesota Capitol dome with the green and growing things that she loved."

Thank you, @stribrooks.bsky.social
Brooks: Minnesota’s greatest honor for a family’s great loss
Former President Joe Biden paid his respects in person, and mourners waited in long lines to honor Melissa and Mark Hortman, and their dog Gilbert, as they lay in state at the Capitol.
