Anyone have doggy daycares they like in Portland? I work from home but my new pup definitely needs playtime with other dogs.

Sure:
Light rail, high speed rail, ocean wave generation, solar power generation, wind generation, heat pump tech, geothermal heat pump tech, last mile on-demand transit solutions, better wheelchairs, better wheel chair lifts, better flexible seating on public transit, maker spaces, tool libraries.

During the pandemic I was really excited about all the tech that suddenly made remote work, meetings, and organizing more possible. It enabled accommodations disabled folks had been asking for forever. But people with power didn’t like it and now we have to pretend it doesn’t exist.

I’m trying to learn about dog training but also talking like a preschool teacher to dogs always works. He was trying to play bite me and I put my hands up and said “I’m not interested in that right now” and he stopped. Barking at the neighbors? I said, “Hey Ger, remember how we love our neighbors

The guy who taught drivers ed where I lived (not in like 1 school - everywhere) was named Bob. He didn’t believe women could drive and made most of my friends drive him around to run errands. But our first day I yelled at him when he told me to beep at a squirrel so he never pulled shit with me.
okay one of my best friends just told me her driver's ed teacher was named

wait for it

Mr. Streetman

... and now, because the horrors are horroring, I wish to hear from Bluesky about all your great and bad and terrible and fun driver's ed stories

Th NYTimes has done infinite stories about GLP-1s without a single mention that THERE HAS BEEN NO RESEARCH ON HOW THEY IMPACT PEOPLE WITH A HISTORY IF DISORDERED EATING but no sure it’s really important how mean other fatties will be if you lose weight.

Conservative and reactionary centrist media is trying to set up a narrative in which GLP-1s are some kind of existential threat to body positivity and fat activism.

It's bullshit. If you want to lose weight, go for it. But not everyone can or wants to — and they deserve equal treatment regardless.

One of my coworkers uses the paid version of Claude and told me to use Claude for a basic task the other day. It couldn’t so he asked the paid version “can the free version do this” and it said yes. I had to show him that it couldn’t. These fucking things are not worth the energy they take!
You don't have to give up your normative analysis, but I really do encourage people who have 2022 or 2023-era ChatGPT as their mental model of what AI is to ask Claude Code or whatever to do some complex tasks for them, or talk to people who already do

Real conversation between me and my husband about a bed for our dog for next to my desk:

“I wonder if we could get him a bed that was like a couch cushion.”
“That’s why I was looking at ottomans on Article!”
“No like a bed we could put on the floor.”

Last week I binged the podcast “the curse of americas next top model” and it is absolutely worth listening to because “Tyra is very weird and also a monster” was a big takeaway for me.
In addition to be a true villain, Tyra Banks is WEIRD. When I interviewed her years ago, she stopped me in the middle of the convo for having “beautiful Native American features.”

Like????? Girl, I know my ancestors through and through on both side and they were NIGGAS. Fuck outta here.

I don’t have an overly rosy view of Portland and I think the regional job news is bad. But I have a hard time looking at the Metro Chamber report without thinking of the reputational damage they’ve done to the city.

Now that lobster Nazi is back in the discourse, here is my reminder that if you show up demanding people to not only forgive but politically support someone who hasn’t repaired the damage they’ve done, you’re communicating that you are not safe to be around.

Having spent a lot of time around rich people I’ve concluded that having that much money can melt your brain multiple ways, but a fundamental one is that to justify being so rich many convince themselves that some innate characteristic made them rich rather than luck and exploitation of others.
Swear to god, so many of these uber rich guys who keep trying to intellectualize and sanitize white supremacy really are the dumbest motherfuckers alive. They constantly say word salad-y nonsense like this that would cause them to fail a fourth grade US history test.
This odious white supremacist needs to learn some history.

Not so long ago, it was common to see "Irish need not apply" in job listings in the United States. You know, the same type of pernicious prejudice that Elon exhibits regularly.

I just heard someone say on TV that use of the term "concentration camps" to describe ICE facilities was "very strong language."
I think ICE's concentration camps are very strong abuses of human rights.

Take a tour of the new cycle parking below Berlin's Potsdamer Platz.

Designed for utility, sport, electric and cargo bikes, it enables a smooth transition to public transport, while taking a disused and uncomfortable private retail corridor and reimagining it as a safe and inviting community space.

Training my dog not to bark at people outside the window the normal way, by petting him and calmly saying we love our neighbors because they’re good boys and girls.

My sister named me because my parents couldn’t agree (Mallory or Gillian vs. Emily or Samantha - it was a heated battle). I’ve since learned that older sisters have a habit of overriding parents to name their siblings, and I am here for it.
Curious reading what people's parents almost called them. I don't think I ever asked my parents if they had any alternatives in mind, or what I'd have been called if I was a girl; I doubt they'd remember now.

So I went to Haverford where Lutnick is an alum and has donated a LOT of money. They recently renovated the library and renamed it for him. Students and alumni are screaming at the school to rename it and an email from the president today said she’s “monitoring the situation.”

Learning today whose older sisters made mix CDs of punk covers for them - some of us learned this while screaming along to Goldfinger as tweens.
Today I finally learned what that "99 Luftballons" song is about and I must say I liked it much better when I didn't know this!
