I can’t emphasize enough how much the health care industry is propping up small and midsized towns/cities all over the country. I work in all sorts of places across the west and health care is a top industry in almost every single one. Cutting funding will hit these towns like a brick.

I wrote in my testimony on the proposed budget amendment that spending millions on sweeps is like spending millions to teach parents how to spank their kids. A lot of people will argue it’s a moral good or a necessity, but decades of research shows it is just violence.
In the week since Mayor Wilson began enforcing the public camping ban, we are seeing MORE tents in East Portland. Those folks are just being swept into my district.
I told the mayor that this is what would happen and asked him to bring extra resources to East PDX to meet the displaced. He did not.

Submitted my testimony this morning! If you are sick of our tax dollars being used to terrorize our neighbors, you should too!
If a procrastinating shit poster like me can submit testimony to redirect funds from sweeps, you can too!

This is a bad deal, and the old way of doing things is clearly not working.

disabled people deserve to be able to feel desirable. I struggle with feeling “ugly” due to my disabilities, and I wish that we talked about that feeling more.

I don’t think people understand how organized pro-sweep turnout will be to wednesdays council meeting.
Register for item 8 ASAP. If you can’t make it, testify in writing:

If a budget deal goes through without restoring Medicaid & ACA subsidies, they will never be restored.
That's a death sentence for millions of Americans but also to the entire republic and economy: Health care is a for-profit business generating TREMENDOUS economic activity & will grind to a halt.

My cardiologist recommended that I make my own electrolyte drinks because I hate everything and my body can’t handle magnesium. I just put 1/2 tsp of salt in a mix of pomegranate juice and water, and tell me why it tastes like straight salt lol

Having sat at the airport all day yesterday while ATC issues in Newark resulted in new departure times hourly, I’ve gotta tell you guys that if anything this article underplays what is going on this weekend. It’s going to get worse but it’s already worse than you think.
“The disruptions from federal restrictions on flying at the nation’s busiest airports were challenging, but relatively contained this weekend. But the cuts are expected to grow in the coming days, threatening to wreak havoc for airlines and travelers as Thanksgiving approaches.”

My flight has been canceled, I’m too exhausted to rage adequately. Now all we are missing is my bag. Do yourself a favor and avoid flying.

Some of us have been in Portland long enough to remember the Odnarotoop video promoting Japanese tourism to Portland…
In Japan, tourism to Portland, Oregon, is promoted by a grinning blue monster named Odnarodude. He’s at a Portland artisan event in Jiyugaoka De Aone this weekend.

Again this is by far not the most pressing thing (I say while stuck in an airport) but can some fucking billionaire business guy talk to the research and marketing departments at their companies and learn how important access to census data is and tell the president?
GOP SEN. JOHN KENNEDY: It may be 2026 when we'll come out of the shutdown.
REPORTERS: 😳
KENNEDY: I'm not kidding, you guys. I mean, you see what I see. Okay? This shutdown is going to last a long time. What's going to get us out of it?

If people thought I was mad before, wait until they see what happens if this fucker’s shutdown keeps me from seeing my grandma in the hospital.
I normally keep Bluesky off my phone until after Shabbat ends but my flight is delayed 6 hours and they told me not to leave the airport in case it gets moved earlier. I JUST WANT TO SEE MY GRANDMA WHO IS IN THE ICU I AM GOING INSANE SITTING HERE WAITING FOR NEWARK TO GET ITS SHIT TOGETHER.

THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!! Lets do the things that will get and keep people stably housed!!!!!!
Portland City Council will consider an amendment next week to redirect $4.3 million from the city program that sweeps homeless encampments. If passed, the budget adjustment will instead invest $2 million in rent and food assistance, and support for immigrants and refugees.

Arguing with the comments section in the NYTimes because I think it’s wildly unreasonable to live in a neighborhood and expect complete tranquility, and I believe that kids deserve to be able to be loud outside in their yards/streets/driveways during the daytime.

It’s bait and I’m not going to click on it, but when someone is asking if women/“liberal feminism” ruined the workplace what they’re saying is they’re a sex pest. Because there is not anything in workplace culture today that could be called feminism other than not letting men be outright horrible.
