Visited Bethanies house open house in nw today. I have mixed feelings abt congregate shelters but this looks helpful.

Sad that I saw an older guy getting interviewed in the corner and thought “do I need to give a testimonial defending the honor of blanchet house against NA’s”. We shouldn’t have to!

We hired a new city administrator and it took him a couple weeks to find out the pre-charter government was basically Vibe Code.
The Portland Housing Bureau (PHB) is sitting on $106 million in unspent funds, far more than was previously reported. City Administrator Raymond Lee outlined the funding in a memo Friday afternoon.
Update: Portland Housing Bureau's Unspent Funds Reach $106 Million
News of the unspent money comes two months after city councilors learned the city's Rental Services Office amassed $21 million in revenue, which went unreported for months.

I’m reminded of of “blitz scaling”; in the 2010s, rideshare companies used their VC $$$ to undercharge for rides compared to taxi competitors, then jacked prices once they cornered market. Could we see similarities w/r/t to safety, especially as technical limitations arise w/ ridership increases?
As always, be sure to read all the interesting perspectives and ideas about this story in the comment section

Excited to go to Beaverton tomorrow and canvass for @oregontammy.bsky.social and talk about universal health care in Oregon! Should be a good time!

Can someone explain to me what is so urgent about renovating an arena that was built 30 years ago. Is the Jumbotron going to fall on someone. Is the floor going to break under people’s feet. Can’t they just play the game in the normal stadium

Tammy got the natl endorsement. She’s awesome. We NEED new state leadership. It’s clearly the bottleneck here in Portland.
DSA is endorsing Tammy Carpenter for Oregon State House, and we need your help to win 🌹

Dr. Carpenter is a proud member of @PortlandDSA running to fight for universal healthcare, fully-funded schools and a renters’ bill of rights ✊

Progressives’ win condition has two prerequisites:
1) convince us that reform is necessary.
2) convince us that reform is possible.

This behavior makes sense when you realize the opposition is retreating from battle 1) to battle 2).
Interesting to see which councilors are uncomfortable with city council using its charter powers to investigate unreported funds hmmmmm

Looking forward to this improvement on sw alder. I don’t always know the best way to travel east via bike, and this clears that up. I emailed the project asking for hardened bike lanes.

We’ve lost this technology
Sidenote: In this early postcard of the Hawthorne Bridge, you can see that there used to be little waiting shelters for pedestrians on either side of the lift segment. At this time, the streetcars ran in the outside lanes of the bridge, so conceivably could have picked passengers up at these points.

Marie trying to understand immigrants under siege by right-wing death squads: "Imagine a bratty child at recess."
In a government that is increasingly bent around the power of one man, my vote to keep the government open reflects the urgency for Congress to maintain its oversight role. This isn’t recess. You can’t just take your ball and go home.

Hey friends, if you’re proud of our DSA city councilors like I am you should consider donating to their campaigns. Mitch Green, Tiffany Koyama-Lane and Angelita Morillo are up for reelection this year.

Using the link in the following post will let you evenly split your donation 3 ways!

Will stencil discourse = the politics fandom
When I talk about a “politics fandom” I’m thinking of the “debate” over whether America is essentially evil or not, or whether its good comms to message it as such

truly does not matter, Bluesky is not going to uncover the messaging that changes the world

U are either doing the work or u are not

For the fun factor, we should just build a $40m social housing complex at pioneer square
The Portland Housing Bureau has found roughly $20 million in additional unspent funds, two city councilors say, on top of another pot of $21 million that the housing bureau found late last year.

While signature gathering to save transit throughout the Bay a person asked me why I was doing it.

I explained the looming cuts and the importance of transit

They said "yeah I get that, but shouldn't the government just raise taxes to fund transit? Why do you have to gather signatures?"

We should be angry that peaceful protestors - including families with kids - got tear gassed by feds today.

And I’m still angry that in 2022, Oregon lawmakers reversed a tear gas ban passed in 2021. Many lawmakers who voted “yes” to rollback still in office today.

Civil rights groups cry foul, saying Oregon lawmakers set to roll back tear gas restrictions
Lawmakers in Salem are scheduled to vote Thursday on legislation that will roll back restrictions they put in place on the use of tear gas and impact munitions less than a year ago.
