Model trains!

One, its a hobby. Two is a backdoor way to get people into mass transit.
i think american life would improve significantly and quickly if society was more encouraging of people to have Hobbies. the most perfect and serene state of mind that exists is when one is Doing one's Little Things

Have you noticed an uptick in people talking about model trains? I bet this happens at the beginning of every year right after the holidays when people have seen them on display and wonder whether they should get into the hobby. 🤔

I honestly think perhaps every year, the best pieces of digital media should be recorded onto 70 or 35mm film and put in a physical archive. "Best" doesn't have to be critically acclaimed, but things that are most essential to understanding each year it is done. Could be a 6 sec short or Deep dive

Headlines decades from now will all be about "someone found the last intact copy of XYZ digital media thought long lost because a person saved it for future generations in an old storage format"

BE that someone with the stuff you love, especially the ephemeral and obscure stuff.

My stamp of the day is from Australia 1993. This is one of a set of 6 stamps. You can expect to pay around £2.00 for a used set. These are an excellent addition to my trains collection. #stampoftheday #stampcollecting #philately #stamps

Yeah of course! If you start looking into layout construction I’ve got ideas for that and am happy to help, but if you want to get serious and see what a genuine master modeler can do I highly recommend checking out @interurbanera.bsky.social’s work for inspiration and ideas!

Non-railroad modeling hobbies should standardize on rail modeling scales so that everyone has better access to mixed used models like buildings, figures, and such.
This place needs some Innocuous Discourse pronto. Quote this with a take that’s not political or aggressive

Kinda wild they never did this for one of the cabbages, but I have to say, I really like the Caltrans "pert plus" one they actually did.

When garden railroads go for realism, they go hardddd. Chehalis Western Garden Railroad dropped this construction site image and I'm still enamored with all the weathering and detail. #modeltrains #trains #modelrailroading

Friendly reminder to all my friends and mutuals who do commission work: raise your prices.

Inflation since 2021 is up over 21% for USD, have you done at least the same to stay ahead of it?

Did some highly casual railfanning the other day, walking across the 7th Street bridge and back again hoping to catch some trains.

Mostly just got some exceptionally good weathering references for spine cars and baretables.

Every city needs a new-build rail-served industrial park that has the caveat that the tenants must ship by rail & the moment they stop they are moved out for another industry that needs rail.

Perhaps keep switching fees reasonable by having a city owned belt line to serve it well.
Going to be interesting to see how this turns out @a320lga.bsky.social @sandypsj.bsky.social @bdebone.bsky.social
The development will span more than 2,000 acres.
