Since I went to the trouble of photographing many of the days of my first year of model railroading, here's a thread with some of those pics. Starting with the early "Layout 0" intended to be my first layout. The hill turned out uneven along with a bad choice of layout board so I got less ambitious.

So a project my father in law and I have been working on. My dad gave me this train, it's a 1927 Lionel Train that his dad, my grandfather got when he was 7. Here's the before and after, even ran batteries for the lights. My son is really excited with it.

I used the wondermachine to help write a program which was good in the sense you get to talk through the requirements more than the usual pick templates > one clicking > custom logic > bunch of config way of doing things, but ugh it still really is a lot slower and so much bad code. #programming

If you haven't seen these wooden kits of locomotives or a lot of other things, they're fairly amazing.
Made more progress on the locomotive: built the tank and started building the cab. So far, everything fits, no glue was required, and it's an interesting change from the detailed paper work. #woodcraft #train #scalemodel #histscalemodels

When I first got into model trains many, many days ago ofc I was thinking in terms of giant autoracks & 6000 HP locomotives, but then I learned it isn't only about ovals and long trainsets but also about shunting puzzles and operations, so now those little boxcars are a lot more interesting.

Well, if you have a real model train you've been here before. Sometimes they refuse to go on the tracks but it's usually a "you" problem... at least with Second Quest you can blame it on the devs.

The biggest innovation in skyscrapers was a plain one story building. Delivery drivers couldn't stop talking about it: you'd enter an elevator like usual and press a floor number and the doors would open instantly without the "elevator" moving and you'd be on a different floor.🤔 #scififri #vss365

I nearly forgot about this mixed freight trainset with two locomotives that worked surprisingly well as long as I didn't try to go backwards, because the EF66 is faster than the DD51 so it tries to push it off the track. DCC would probably have helped with that. #modelTrains
