I'm not saying the fictional model railroad's lore isn't getting all encompassing but I could see doing a whole photographic chronology.
One more model railroading question: I could cut the mainline oval here (at the bottom) and use flex track or trimmed pieces, but would this be too tight a turn?

Picture that bottom diagonal as an S bending all the way down to the image of the turnout. Would that add a lot to this layout?

If you're decorating your home, consider all the railroad liveries that worked so hard to come up with colors that go well together. Get one of Andy's posters in the color scheme you like and base the room off of it. Lemon lime Reading Lines living room perhaps?
These Reading Lines locomotives move trains at Allentown. Reading Lines was known for its slogan “Bee Line Service. 🚂🐝 customtrains.org

Andy Fletcher has all kinds of train-related artwork that are also great learning tools for learning locomotives. The lines are crisp and the colors deep and perfect, a step beyond what you might expect. His posters are worth a nice frame!

Neat video where you can see the sparks from a thin layer of ice on the catenary wire.
Overnight freezing rain meant ice on the catenary — but the O-Train was ready. We filmed an O-Train Line 1 LRV at Cyrville clearing the wire with its pantograph, throwing off visible sparks as it shaved off the ice layer. A neat look at real-world winter operations on an overhead-powered system.

Matsuo Bashō’s haiku, “If you speak, your lips grow cold in the autumn wind,” captures the feeling of regret or loneliness that follows when we say something too directly.
A moment of honesty can feel as cold and sharp as the autumn air.

"And when a steering wheel is endowed with the master’s extraordinary craftsmanship, it begins to feel not merely traditional, but like a helm that encompasses the entire span of human endeavor—a rudder guiding a long, enduring flow of time itself."

Yes you read that correctly: "urushi lacquered steering wheel" 👀
I’m currently exhibiting my urushi lacquered steering wheel at the ongoing show at Tokyo Midtown Yaesu, and a man who saw it shared a wonderful comment about it on X.

Opinions on switches. I want analog switches on the layout for the turnouts even if they'll get JMRI'd later. There's a spot here I had to clear to get access to rail or I could mount it on the side. What type of (momentary on, 12V 1 amp) buttons/switches do you prefer? One switch per or selectable?

Gabions. I was trying to remember "gabions" the other day.
For model railroading ideas, rip rap vs. gabions explained. erosionmanagementservices.com/blog/underst...

Rip rap are the mix of big and small rocks you might see on a shoreline but usually sloped like a beach. Gabions are similar rocks but put into a metal "basket" so they can form vertical walls.

Where model railroading & woodworking intersect? This feels too ad hoc to be wood working. Glue this in temporarily, then screw it up from underneath. Then more frame, spray foam, finally form and foliage, then it's a mountain/waterfall/tunnel but also a handle to make picking up the layout easier.
