The notes with the collection say this is Portland, OR, on Friday, August 6, 1937. Photographer most likely Bill Darrough, from the Darrough Collection. Since negatives were extensively traded it's possible Bill was not the photographer. Photos from this collection have been shared with permission from Jack Darrough, obtained before he died. Reportedly: SP 4203 was built in 1911 by Baldwin as a Mallet Mogul (MM), SP 4203, SP Class MM-2. This locomotive was upgraded in 1936 and converted to simple emerging as an Articulated Mogul (AM) SP 4203, SP Class AM-2. In 1938 the locomotive was renumbered to SP 3903. The disposition of this locomotive is, vacated and scrapped in 1946 Please do not edit, crop, "correct" or "improve" these photos without asking me first.

On Monday, November 24, 2025, my HO models of Canadian National (CN) 1776 and 2202 are leading a freight approaching Niles on the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA. These are both Rapido models. My CN 1776 is a model of an ALCo/MLW RSC-14 and 2202 is a model of an F-M/CLC H16-44. The real CN 1776 was an ALCo/MLW RSC-14, CN Class MR-14c. Reportedly, it was converted from CN RS18 3877 in 1975. CN 3877 was built in 1960, builders number 83257. CN 1776 was retired in 1987.

My HO model of WP 729 pulling a local on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA. This is an Athearn Genesis model. The real WP 729 was an EMD GP9, WP Class RS62. Reportedly it was built in 1955, construction number 20700. It became UP 304 and was sold in 1985 to PNC.

The train did some work at Montezuma, KS, on Friday June 28, 2019. GECX 5951 is a GE B40-8. Reportedly GECX 5951 was built in 1988 by GE as CR 5061 a model B40-8, builders number 45625 It is former CSX 5951, and before that, CR 5061.

This old warrior has many more years in her and after a repaint and a renumber it will last into the early 80's as the second 706. BN 9732 was an EMD F3A. Reportedly: it was built in 1947, builders number 4334, as GN 260A. It became GN 366A. Southern Pacific (SP) Alco S6 1234 tied up at Pittsburg, CA. On an unknown date in 1973. According to "OPRRMS" on Altamont Press, (This was posted to Altamont Press on May 30, 2014.) Back then, SP still had two locals that worked out of Pittsburg, but they wouldn't last much longer and a single job out of Ozol Yard in Martinez would be able to handle all the remaining work - the same as UP does it currently (2014). SP 1234 was an ALCo S6, SP Class AS409-3. Reportedly, S6 SP 1234 was built 1956 as SP 1067, SP Class DS-11, construction number 81808, order number S-3262. It became SP 1234, in the 1965 renumbering. It was retired in J1976 and became Louisiana Dock 1234, then American Commercial Terminals 1234. Disposition unknown after that. On Sunday, October 20, 1974, I made one of my many trips to Southern California to shoot the Santa Fe and Union Pacific in the desert. SD45-2's were top of the line power then and were being widely used. Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) 5675 with 5506 and 8707 head east, at East Barstow, from the Barstow Yard. ATSF 5675 was an EMD SD45-2. Reportedly: it was built in 1973 serial number 72642-32. In 1986 it was rebuilt to SD45-2u SPSF 7229, (but may never have worn that number.) It was later repainted to ATSF 5829. It was subsequently patched to BNSF 6479 in 2000. It was later rebuilt into an EMD SD40-2R, BNSF 1570. NOTE: In October 2021 Evan Werkema said, "This SD45-2 usually is reported as rebuilt to 7229, and it was definitely the last rebuilt SD45-2 released in SPSF red and yellow, but I wonder if it ever actually wore that number. The 7200-series road numbers were another reflection of the combined SPSF numbering scheme, and since 6-axle EMD's in the 7200's didn't fit Santa Fe's pre-merger numbering scheme at all (where the 6000's, 7000's, and 8000's were reserved for GE's), the rebuilt SD45-2's were quickly renumbered into the 5800's following the merger rejection in July 1986. In an old thread, spider1319 posted a photo of just-released red and yellow 5829 coupled to just-released blue and yellow 5830, which suggests that if ATSF SD45-2 7229 ever existed, it was likely only within the confines of the San Bernardino Shops prior to release."

United States Steel (USSX) 16, a Baldwin S-12, was working near Columbia Avenue at the Pittsburg, CA Plant in or about 1975. Pittsburg's steel mill first opened in 1910 as Columbia Steel, a 60-man foundry. This plant is now closed. USSX 16 was a Baldwin S-12 switcher. It reportedly was built in 1953, as MCR 30 construction number 75912. The following reporting marks and numbers have reportedly been associated with this locomotive: USSX 203, RAYO 203, MCR 203, FR&W 16.
