My End of Year video is on the "Golden Age of Indie RPGs," from roughly 2010 to 2025. I start with Apocalypse World's release, work through the Google+ Era, and follow design lineages and historical events that have impacted the hobby up through 2025.

Good morning! Just wanted to let you all know that Rian Johnson subtly rickrolled us with a scene in Wake Up Dead Man. [bsky.app]

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it’s really important you know that the scene in the Seminary’s Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up. I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

Imagine me saying something about Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery that makes you want to check out this ashcan of a game in a similar genre to the Knives Out films
The ashcan of In The Library With The Wrench is now available on Patreon. Free members can peek at the Mansion and Colonel playbooks, while paid members can read the full thing.

In the phase of a game’s design where answering a question asks four messy new ones. Great fun, but my design doc is a disaster right now.

And news. And science. And human interaction.
When people’s entire diet consists of fast food, their first reaction to fine cuisine will be bewilderment and even disgust. This law also applies to literature, music, and film.

A kingfisher made from a circular saw blade, paint pen, and spray paint. I sketched it, Echo cut it out and added the copper eye, and I painted it. This was a gift, but we'd love to make more birds like this! What birds would you want to see?

DNGN CLUB 25: A YEAR IN REVIEW

Continuing with another free 1 page game, Safe Cracker is a system neutral mini game to enhance the tension of breaking into a vault.

It's short, sweet, and inspired by Mosaic Strict rules building — it can be played by itself or as subsystem of another game.

For my contribution to the Merry Hexmas blog bandwagon, I made a mini sandbox: the Jinglebell Barrens, a land which lives in the shadow of a lost city which forgot the meaning of Hexmas. Will the adventurers restore warmth & cheer to its streets, or simply plunder everything not nailed down? #osr

I would be doing what I do even without itch.io, without software, without an audience. Without pens and paper, I would still think it to myself. It's an essential part of being alive for me.
Most of us did not choose to write or draw or design so that we could put products on the shelf. We chose to do it because it’s a set of skills we enjoy exercising, that give us fulfillment.

It’s like asking a pro pitcher to just let a machine pitch for them. Fuck off and give me the ball.
