Abolish the Senate. I am absolutely dead serious.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

Now, if you've watched Schoolhouse Rock you know that if one chamber passes a bill the other can choose to take it up or not, and if they do and pass said bill it goes to the President. The Senate in 1922... chose not to decide. (Geddy Lee voice: "you still have made a choice!")

@samareck.bsky.social did my girl justice. Would've posted this when it was done, but it took me a little bit to get things sorted.
This was a gift from my GF: @soroshi.bsky.social
But here's my girl Brigitte Dehan, who I've been using a lot as of late

In the history of poetry, this thread will be remembered as an era-defining achievement
i like
big
trunks and i cannot lie
you other travelers can't deny
that when a shattered visage lies in the sand
with a sneer of cold command
you get sprung
from the passions read
from a hand mocked and heart fed
that pedestal tried to warn me
but "look upon my works" makes (me-me-me so horny)

Some traveller once told me
He's from a land so old he
Saw a pair of vast and trunkless legs
Near them on the sand
An expression of command
The sneering visage on a half-sunk head
Well the years start coming and they don't stop coming
Lone level sands to horizon running
He's from a land so old he
Saw a pair of vast and trunkless legs
Near them on the sand
An expression of command
The sneering visage on a half-sunk head

Part of the effort to rewrite the history of the pandemic into one where "it was annoying because of nanny-state Democratic overreach" requires actively forgetting that it was a big deal because *more than a million Americans died*—literally hundreds of thousands needlessly due to political sabotage
A million Americans died from Covid. Denial doesn't make those deaths go away. We should have a day of remembrance for those souls, not bury the truth.
This is part of the war over How We Remember the Pandemic
Always remember the truth: it was a big deal, most regular people were sensible at the time, the anti-vaccine craziness set in late & has been trying to rewrite history ever since

1. Mutual Aid is a good thing
2. Government-sponsored organizations are almost always much more efficient and capable of large-scale distributions.
Reinventing libertarianism from first principles in defense of mutual aid is just fucking dumb.

another datapoint for the “your mutual aid network cannot replace state capacity” crowd
Food bank director: “for every meal that a food bank provides, the SNAP program provides nine. There’s no way we can meet that gap.”

Elon Musk couldn’t figure out how to make a pop tart without hurting himself
one thing thats kinda crazy to get your head around is not that the musk and thiel masters of the universe are ungrateful for the vast public infrastructure, public funding of research, and robust systems of laws and rules that made their wealth possible. it's that theyre too dumb to understand it

Tron will forever be to me a broken world building concept that aged horribly and is impossible to make work. This is why the best results will always be "it looks pretty and has a good soundtrack."
