So much this. If you really care about the use of GenAI in your works, why use it for your story, or allow your translation provider to use it, through machine translation?

My issue with all these devs posting their statements against GenAI is that it's just in their bubble, but won't consider DeepL or Google or any other LLM as GenAI thus is ok to translate their game with it.

A ver si os creéis que lo de subcontratar sin acreditar o pagar miserias no lo hacen también muchas agencias boutique e incluso autónomos.

Si la solución que se te ocurre para escapar de la explotación que impera en la localización de videojuegos es subcontratar a recién egresados para lucrarte tú también con esa explotación, a costa de agravarla y hundir a esas criaturas ilusionadas en la precariedad, eres peor que las megaagencias.

Thank you, @bcmerchant.bsky.social, for giving translators a chance to speak their piece. I see a lot of replies and QRTs along the lines of "I'm glad I didn't finish my translation degree" or "This is all I know, am I really doomed?", so allow me to share a few thoughts:
Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality.

I've spoken to LSP executives who "claim" that Disney, MGM, etc. "don't want quality subtitles", which is why they're now using MTPE for subtitles. These entertainment companies think their audiences will be OK with "a certain level of mediocrity".
