But most importantly think of how much Kate McKinnon we’d get on SNL
We could have has Pres Warren... but the Russian "Bernie Bro" bots targeted her, and then Biden entered the race late, and suddenly she was "unelectable" and dropped out because she wasn't raking in big donations.
She's the poster girl for why we need campaign finance reform and ranked voting.
She needs to be in leadership. She executes plans. She knows and adheres to the law. And, she listens to people not consultants.

Let women lead.

Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.

So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.

Generative AI is pretty good at getting things 90% correct if you use it correctly. The problem is that in a lot of fields 99.99% right is a catastrophically bad failure rate.

So do we know why DDHQ called the race for Harrell several days ago? I’m assuming they just applied a statistical model that didn’t account for Seattles peculiarities?
Seattle media, tonight, is going as close as possible to saying Katie Wilson won the mayoral race — without phrasing it as entirely final. (Which is all very defensible at this stage.)

Seattle is shaping up to be the left's second big mayoral win, a sort of West Coast companion to NYC.

The amount of people on here who were trashing the idea of the ACA being a good shutdown basis and now saying "Dems are letting the ACA expire" is showing me how much performative posters really make up this app.
Weird how at some point the ACA subsidies went from meaningless technocrat babble that it was obviously incredibly stupid for Democrats to try protecting to being incredibly important for helping people avoid suffering.

And Democrats managed to get it wrong both times!! What were the odds?

I hadn't realized that Durbin has been the Democratic whip since 2005 (!!). That's just too long to be in that position (or any leadership position), his caucus should vote him out (the resulting Aaron Sorkin movie will have him receiving the news on a blue slip)

This is one of those things that makes the complete and abject failure of US political news media so clear. No reporter, anchor, interviewer should even be entertaining the discussion of a Trump healthcare plan at this point. Gentle scoffing and eyerolls would be the serious journalistic response.

This is basically what I've been saying. It's hard to negotiate when the other side is just gunning people down because lol lmao. There is no real lever of pressure to apply in the face of sheer nihilism.

the prob w political discourse on this site is that whenever something happens that ppl are critical about it just pings around in a hermetically sealed bubble of anger & priors reinforcement until the prevailing attitude curdles into "well Ds could have easily done X to make Rs do Y" w/o any proof
I want people to describe to me, slowly, the actual mechanism by which ACA subsidies could be restored by the minority

If there's one thing I would like everyone over 25 to know, it's that way more of the government is run by the people who just decided to show up to meetings than you realize.

Attend a couple city commission meetings yourself, and they lose a lot of the mystique.
Right, the answer isn't to abandon the party to these weasels.

The answer is to flood the party with people who will take it over and transform it.
Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

"It's about guaranteeing safety" is a great way to justify building a moat that prevents smaller companies from competing

Safety is good and important. My hot take is that it's fully possible to make regulatory compliance easier without sacrificing safety, but big companies don't want that.

Listen it’s foolish to predict anything in this world, but I am extremely, extremely confident that the chances Democrats lose a single race anywhere in the country for any office at any level as a direct result of how the country feels about the way the shutdown of November 2025 ended are 0.00%
This is only a contrarian view on a website that has full on lost its mind.
A bit of a contrarian view. Democrats likely won't pay a price for this in the midterms. The American memory is quite short on political machinations. But Republicans are about to learn a central tenet of American politics: You cannot give people a benefit and then take it away.

The point was to avoid giving Republicans a 1 year CR.

They did that.

Unfortunately voters decided to give Republicans majorities in a system where the minority party has no power beyond that which the majority party gives them.

And even so, they managed to reduce this to a 2 month CR + SNAP.

As someone who rides all winter long, this is a really great thread! As Travis notes, everyone is different, but this gives a great overview of areas to focus on and potential clothing options.
In honor of my first <30ºF bike commute of the season, let's talk about how to stay warm in the 20s, 10s, and even 0s.

For years I biked for transit in Boston 9 months a year, pausing in winter – but one year I decided to just keep going. So can you!

Here are some tips 👇🏻, please share yours too!

I just keep feeling like a lot of this "Schumer gave them the pass" is just cope from the bitter truth of "8 moderates were getting tons of calls from constituents angry at SNAP going away, and air travel disrupted, and so bolted when they saw the GOP happily burn shit down". At least how I saw it.
