a bunch of people on here and around me physically absolutely take *very strong* positions entirely because their friends tell them to, they will of course deny this and claim they reasoned their way into it, you can call me paranoid but it's obviously true

This is one of those things that makes the complete and abject failure of US political news media so clear. No reporter, anchor, interviewer should even be entertaining the discussion of a Trump healthcare plan at this point. Gentle scoffing and eyerolls would be the serious journalistic response.

Problem is, voters gave Republicans Congress and the presidency last fall. Putting us in a position where we can't fix everything in 2025

"It's about guaranteeing safety" is a great way to justify building a moat that prevents smaller companies from competing

Safety is good and important. My hot take is that it's fully possible to make regulatory compliance easier without sacrificing safety, but big companies don't want that.

The point was to avoid giving Republicans a 1 year CR.

They did that.

Unfortunately voters decided to give Republicans majorities in a system where the minority party has no power beyond that which the majority party gives them.

And even so, they managed to reduce this to a 2 month CR + SNAP.

What rocks about this is that this money is being fed directly to OpenAI so that they can burn it and need more in a few months. The business masters have arrived
