Excellent (and short!) article on the problems with merely disclosing AI use
Andrea Reyes Elizondo @altibel.bsky.social and I have responded to a blog, recently published on @leidenmadtrics.bsky.social, which argued that using AI responsibly in research means being transparent about it. We object that supposed transparency obscures more fundamental ethical questions.
Why AI transparency is not enough
Recently, a taxonomy to disclose the use of generative AI (genAI) in research outputs was presented as an approach that creates transparency and thereby supports responsible genAI use. In this post we...

What does it mean to use #genAI "responsibly" in research? In this post, @petertarras.bsky.social & I respond to a taxonomy which equates disclosure of use with transparency & responsibility. We object to this & call for more conversations about how & why it's used, who is harmed, & who benefits.

1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

Welcome to Sweden, when you can only get vaccinated from October 15, only in certain regions, and most likely by paying only, since the "recommended people" list is more narrow than it is in the US with RFK Jr and all.
As did I, and I had to do a little last minute wrangling with my insurance company, which was initially not going to cover it. I would’ve paid out of pocket if I had to, but I shouldn’t have to. The vaccine should be covered.
I realize that, being under 65, RFK Jr & Drs Makary & Prasad think I should NOT get the updated Covid vaccine—but I ignored them & followed the advice of the American Academy of Family Physicians, who recommend ALL adults get the shot (www.aafp.org/news/media-c...)

Thx to the Minute Clinic at CVS🙏

Like bell hooks said, “I think that we have to restore feminism as a political movement. The challenge to patriarchy is political, and not a lifestyle or identity... we have to return to very basic education for critical consciousness, around what visionary feminist politics really is about.“

Academics are under unrelenting pressure to accept the narrative of the inevitability of #generativeAI & to embrace it in teaching & learning. We resist - because it is ecologically destructive, ethically corrupt, & because it undermines the thinking abilities that make us both human & intelligent.
