The long and the short of it: this legislation would incentivize waste, fraud and abuse. What's the impetus? Trying to shift the cost burden of caring for vets from the state to the feds.

even if there was good reason to set aside his repellant past i don't know why we have to treat the people like him and kirk who cut their teeth arguing with 19 year olds well into their thirties like members of a serious intellectual tradition

I wouldn't put it past this Lege to run a bill renaming the Johnson County HHS building (where our offices are) for Kirk, maybe Rep Holt will introduce it.

My entire service has been under a pugilistic Republican trifecta at the state level. The past year, under a predatory federal government. I have never complied in advance, and where absolutely necessary, I have given only my malicious compliance.

Somewhere, sometime soon, other supervisor candidates will be arguing we need more technocratic, less passionate administration. "Quit putting a target on our back! Focus on what the law requires, ignore what the law permits!"
